455 Discontinued
« on: December 04, 2018, 09:52:30 PM »
First the 452, now the 455.

Still not convinced the 455 is better  and just brought another 452! Kinda like the changes to the bolt throw and using torx screws. The rest were never issues for me; safety is just training, the trigger needed minor tweaks, never understood swapping barrels - buy another gun - and the lighter weight isn't an advantage in my book.

CZ?s 455 rimfire rifle series is no more. It has been replaced by the 457 seen above and below. Changes to the 457 include a push-to-fire safety lever, a shorter, slab-sided, lighter weight action, reduced bolt throw for more scope clearance, fully adjustable trigger, sculpted bottom metal, nitride finish, and a lighter weight firing pin. Retained are the 455s interchangeable barrel system and magazine compatibility.

No one ever said the 455 is better and never tried to pass one off as such.

Perhaps try to equate them as equals but I certainly haven?t seen anyone try to pass one off as better.

To bad the cz455 was so short lived. I don?t care for the slabside appearance if the 457 receiver.

The CZ-USA marketing team will be disappointed to hear you say that I'm sure  ;D They have spent a lot of time trying to sell the the 455 as the "new and improved" 452; NOW with tighter manufacturing tolerances, smoother operation, barrel interchangeably, and stock option consolidation.

Be interesting to see what new spin they put on the 457.

The pics I saw from your link are ugly to me.
Guess I?ll be buying up as many 455?s and 452?s I can find.

Btw
I haven?t had any issues that weren?t able to be solved with the 455 platform.

I dont particularly care for the lines of the 457. But here is the question, which is going to disappear first off the shelves the long discontinued 452 or the newly discontinued 455? When did they discontinue the 452 2010? And replaced it with the 453 and then the 455. You can still buy (20)18 date stamped 452's. And not just the so called Grand Finale version. So eight years to make that hurry up purchase? One of the many things I like about CZ is they dont seem to be in any particular hurry about most things.

I've got a  452 American and a Grand Finale, both wearing  Dec. 2018 Date Stamps. As for the 457, I really have no opinions either way. But I'm sticking with 452s and over time plan to shop a couple more, used if necessary. Definitely want a Varmint soon as funding is approved by my "Supervisor".

I'm not bashing any of these. Love my 452s because they have proven their worth to me. The 455 barrel swap is a great option for individuals who live in restricted areas and might be limited to the number of guns they can own. A 455 expands their options for calibers. It also offers custom aftermarket barrel options for the accuracy chaser. The 457 will make a lot of guys in the USA happy because they finally have their "correct" safety.

I have no idea what CZUB or CZ-USA are planning but if it were me I would setup 2 product lines. Keep the 455 and then promote the 457 as an upgraded version with the upgraded bottom metal, torx screws, adjustable trigger, lighter weight, etc. I would hate for them to lose their "affordable" quality niche they have.

One thing I love about all the changes; the mags never changed and are interchangeable. Maybe someday I'll find a deal on a 455 and add one to the mix. Just found a 452 Varmint that I couldn't turn down cause it came with FOUR mags.

Like you, I'm not bashing any of the CZ offerings. They build a quality product and sell it at a reasonable price. That's not as common as it once was.

Good for you AZ! I just have to be patient.

I've also purchased a 17 date stamped 22 L.R. American 452. It joined an 02 American in 22 Magnum and a 06 American in 17 HMR. Felt like I should finish out the set. There are also a pair of 452 Full Stock 22 L.R. (03 and 07) one scoped and one still open sighted. And a single 455 Full Stock originally in 17 HMR but with barrels. I like the barrel profile of the 452 series more than the 455 series but no complaints with the 455 performance. Like Wiley Coyote I appreciate the value to cost ratio of CZ products. I'm mostly in awe of the 527 centerfire rifles. At some point in time I will find a 452 Full Stock in 22 Magnum that got first place in the wood lottery. And then I may be done with purchasing 452 rifles. I will have to see and actually handle the 457 before really knowing weather its for me or not. Just from the pictures it resembles the bolt gun by Thompson Center of a few years back. Just have to wait and see.

My favorite is the varmint that found me. She?s all I shoot these days, helping me to close in slowly but surely on 250, training me up for the big leagues  ;D

I read that the 457 will be several hundred dollars higher than the 455. If true, I should think that it could discourage new purchases.

Looks like $450-$1200 with extra barrels $130-$150... not bad but we'll see how they do.

Any word on if the 457's will have a left hand variant? The 455's did not come in left-hand versions but they have kept selling the LH 452's for years (at least the American variant).

If they stop selling the 452 LH's and don't offer left-hand 457's then Savage is pretty much the last remaining production .22 bolt option for us left-handed shooters. And what they offer is far inferior to CZ.

FWIW, the 2019 CZ Catalog https://www.czub.cz/CZUB_2019_ENG/index.html is still listing the 455.
