The best groups my old Ruger Mk1 5.5" bull barrel and my Win. M52B ever shot were with Thunderbolts.

We took one of those little kids single shot bolt action rifles (chipmunk, or something like that) to the range a couple weeks back.  Very hard for an adult to "get down on".  Had to sort of lay my head over sideways to get my eye behind the rear sight, had a sort of "temple weld" on the stock back there.  With Thunderbolts I could get two shots to tear same hole in the paper with a third anywhere from 1/2 to maybe an inch away from the other two.  You know, with a single shot bolt action, you've got to break that "temple weld" after every shot, which makes it tougher to stay consistent even with a rifle that fits you.

Yes, buy/try different brands of ammo.  Sometimes you find something that just works great in your gun(s).

Winchester white box is very underpowered for factory ammo. My club's range (like just about all pistol ranges here) do not allow factory ammunition to be used, only target loads, but because WWB is so anaemic lol it is allowed.

Put it this way; it's the only ammo I've ever seen to cause stovepipes in a Glock. We chrono'd some once and it was about 98-100 PF lol

Where are you that they don't allow factory ammo?  Every range here requires you to use their ammo, which is invariably overpriced factory ammo.  (Usually Blazer Brass in my experience...)

And in my State, NSW, in particular the Firearm Registry has this stupid NATO template rule, by which they use to force baffling, close down ranges indiscriminantly etc. So no factory ammo because they are on record as saying in a court case (which my club won when we were fighting closure, against the police lol) that a 9mm target load can travel 3 kms 

And because of the NATO template, no backstops are deemed to exist lol

Agreed. You should also be able to hear the 'pffft' noise of a primer igniting (but nothing else lol) during a squib.

Happened to me during the first stage of the day on an awesome "forest" stage in New Zealand at the Australasian IPSC championships back in 2013. First shooter up on the first stage of the day, I was pumped for this stage (which would be all sorts of illegal to have a configuration like this back in Australia, so I really wanted to shoot it) Heared the 'pffft!' just before the RO called "STOP!"

This is good advice.  I have a Remington 870 that will feed anything but white box.  I have bought my last box of it.

WWB will give the most reliable of guns hell. Winchester QC is just unbelievably hit or miss. I see more ammo issues that surround WWB than absolutely any other single brand/make of ammo. Including steel cased stuff.
