Holster fit for 97 BD?
« on: December 27, 2018, 01:47:42 AM »
Was wondering if anyone knows if a holster for an SP-01 will also fit a 97 BD?  Seems like several of the holsters I'm interested in are available for the SP-01 but not the 97, if the two are compatible, it would make things a lot simpler.  Thanks.

The 97 is substantially larger on several dimensions that matter for a holster. IMHO .. a 97 will not work in any SP-01 holster outside of the nylon or leather universal types which are usually of poor quality.

My 97 fits in my SP01 holster.  It goes almost all the way in but is a little loose at the top.  In a pinch it would work but I wouldn't want to run around with it.

Not sure what holsters you are looking at but I had a Tucker Gunleather HF-1 built for my 97B.....fits perfectly.

I decided to find out for myself, since I'm planning on getting an SP-01 Tactical sometime in the near future anyway, I ordered a Comp-Tac International to try with the 97.  I have the same holster for my P-07 for range use and really like it.  I like the flexibility of belt slide or paddle, adjustable cant, and drop offset, if needed.  I find that a lot of belt holsters ride too high for me, especially concealment types, long arms and bad shoulders only make it worse, one of the reasons I prefer appendix carry for my EDC.  As there's almost no chance I'll ever carry the 97, I just need something for range use, and possibly a class or three.  Thanks.

For those interested, the Comp-Tac is a very nice fit for the 97.  Haven't actually gotten to the range with it yet, but around my shop, it seems like it will work just fine.  Friction only on retention, so I don't know if the gun will stay put running or rolling around on the ground, but it feels pretty secure, and I haven't tried adjusting the tension yet.  Later.

I just got in Red Hill Tactical double layer holster for the 97B.  Fits like a glove.  I can put the SP01 Shadow in it as well but not quite a good a fit.  I'll be mounting it up on one of my holster hangers and developing some 135PF loads to shoot .45 in Production.  Big slow moving bullet making huge holes in the cardboard.  Only thing I need to order now is an extended mag release and the gun will be perfect.
