16mm dovetail scope ring options
« on: January 12, 2019, 06:13:01 PM »
Hello everyone.

I have a 1969 BRNO Model 2 that I am trying to put a scope on.  I really don't want to take the rear tangent sight off so I need high rings.  I know Warne makes a set of high rings but I'm not really wild about the look of the 2 piece vertically split design.  I have seen the horizontally split CZ 527 rings on-line but I can't see if they come in any different heights.  The ones on the CZ site are the equivalent of a medium height ring.  Maybe the 527 rings don't come in any other heights?

The scope I was given has a 1" tube and a 44mm objective so that doesn't help, but it was free and will definitely do what I need it to do.  My old eyes appreciate the extra light.

If the Warne rings are my only options I guess that's what I'll have to go with, but again I think they are kinda ugly. I've seen some sort of adapters that slide over the 16mm rail and leave an 11mm rail to use a more standard ring.  They are really clunky looking and just seem to be more "moving parts" that could cause problems.  I would much rather have a horizontally split set of high rings to slide directly over the 16mm dovetails, but maybe they are a unicorn?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
If nice guys finish last, are you willing to pay the price to finish first?

I have a Brno #4 with the 16mm dovetail and used a set of CZ rings that came with one of my 527 rifles.  The ring intended for the rear has a recoil lug that needed to be removed, but a little dremel and file work and then some cold blue took care of this.

I think any rings for a 527 should work, with the recoil lug removed.  Leupold, and Burris make rings for the 527, in addition to Warne and CZ.  Talley might also, but theirs I am familiar with are a vertical split which you stated was not your preference.

If you are interested in a set of the cz rings, let me know.  I may have another extra set that is new that I would sell.

If you go with CZ rings, suggest to replace the screws with hex or torx.   There is a guy on RFC who sells replacement hex screws for ~$10 IIRC, worth?s every pennies.

Otherwise I preferred Warne QD.  It is slightly lower than factory, but if yours is a newer 527, bolt throw should be have been reduced.

I still have contact to the guy on RFC,  PMme if you are interested? I am not affiliated with him..  just a happy customer.

Any 15mm mount should work. Anything that will fit a Tikka T3 will work.

Sportsmatch out of the UK make quality mounts that I've used several times. Airguns of Arizona sells them in the USA.

This one should work for you: Sportsmatch T049C. The arrestor pin on these is removable if you don't need it. No need for filing or grinding.

https://www.sportsmatch-uk.com/1-diameter-body-tube-medium-range-for-15mm-and-17mm-dovetails-up-to-50mm-lens-diameter-includes-removable-arrestor-pin

I've also used Warne 1B1M Low Rings.

Finally, the BKL 400 series should spread wide enough to fit. BKL told me to try them and see, and if they didn't fit they would take them back.
