Why I got rid of my CZ
« on: January 21, 2019, 12:59:21 PM »
Is CZ producing a handgun with a stronger(better) trigger return spring and no hammer cam? I'd consider one for ccw if they are.

Are you out-running the trigger return? What are you splits? Or when you say better do you mean that it doesn't burn out with tons of DA dry fire?

and no hammer cam?
The CZ Custom Competition hammer is in various OEM pistols and that eliminates hammer camming. You can swap it out on the pistol of your choice or look for a little more rare of a carry version that has it. Or you can have CZ Custom swap it for you.
Cajun Gun Works also has their Race Hammer that eliminates camming. You can order and swap on your own or have them swap it for you in their shop.

I guess the bigger question is do you require it to be from CZ OEM or will you take OEM parts to swap, or will you have one of the custom shops do it? The options are there, it just depends on your desired method of getting there.

Please clarify your trigger return spring comments. Yes I do expect to be able to dry fire practice and would rather not have to upgrade or customize a PCR(say).

Stock CZ hammers cam. No doubt about it.

If you like the pistol besides the camming it really isn't difficult or expensive to modify, or customize, it as you put it.

What SA/DA pistol out there meets your requirements as produced?
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

You already posted basically this same question in the compact forum so What EXACTLY is your issue with the trigger return spring? I know some have broken them. I've NEVER had one fail in many thousands of rounds. My 75BD has north of 20 thousand rounds fired on it's original spring. My PCR has north of 10 thousand rounds fired on it's original spring.
The hammer camming is just the way these pistols are designed. You can upgrade the hammer to alleviate that if it's a big deal.
There are few if any pistols out there that ARE NOT receiving some modification in one area or another as evidenced by the vast availability of after market parts and accessories.
I've carried my PCR for 10 years now and it has yet to be replaced by anything I would consider better.

Ok, that's reassurring my OCD. So, apparently, you have not modified your trigger. Do you practice dry fire?

The issue with dry firing, reported by most owners, is damage to or breakage of the firing pin retaining pin.

CZ makes pistols that do not use that system to retain the firing pin in the slide.  I have a couple of those.  A CZ85 (mines a Pre B but if you look you can find a CZ85 Combat on the internet or at a gun show).  The CZ Tactical Sport pistols do not have the firing pin retaining pin either.  Again, on line or a gun show for a new one.

Good luck with your pistol.

Please try to understand, many of the folks here are here because they own, use and like CZ pistols and other CZ fire arms.  Many of us hav been through multiple brands of handguns and many of still shoot other brands of handguns.  We have good reason for being fond of our CZ's.  I have many brands/calibers of semi-auto pistols in my safe.  I've been through them and over a period of years moved from one to another brand/model due to many reasons.

I want a pistol I can carry cocked and locked, one that is reliable, one that feels good in my hand, one that is accurate, one that I can get factory replacement parts and aftermarket/custom parts for.  After working my way through five or six other brands of semi autos I bought my first CZ.  That led to more, and more, and more.  There's a reason why people buy CZ's.  If you don't like them there are lots of other brands to buy/try.  Hopefully you'll find what you want in another brand if CZ doesn't work for you.

Most people here are very willing to help people (old members or new members) trouble shoot problems and give them advice.  Lately there's been a lot fo new people join, not to ask for help, but to "holler" about how lousy CZ's are or how bad CZ's repair service is.  Problem is, most of us have had a totally different experience with the brand.  Sometimes, depending on how a new member presents the issue they are having (real, imagined, or read about on the internet as reported by someone else) patience can be somewhat short.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

did not  mean to holler or evan complain; I apologize if my approach was ill received; I too have had many trials with other brands. For clarification, I am just looking for a PCR that works similarly to the 85 you described.

You won't find a de-cocker CZ(PCR) without a firing pin block.

I do not practice dry fire,I only function test the pistol as a matter of maintenance after cleaning. I reload bunches of 9mm so I can live fire practice at least weekly and often in bad weather months 3 times weekly.
I keep my guns clean and very well lubricated and that is a likely contributing factor in my never breaking a trigger return spring.
If you buy a PCR or any other model CZ I'd practice through at least a thousand rounds to get good and used to the way the pistol functions out of the box and then decide if I wanted to do any mods/upgrades to enhance the action.
Honestly I've owned so many handguns over the years it's hard to remember them all but the one universal thing is I've never owned any handgun that I kept for a length of time that didn't receive some sort of upgrade/action tuning.
For me one of the most rewarding and enjoyable parts of owning and shooting a particular gun is to be able to personalize it to my own likes.
