Shadow 2, big safety lever?

Hello all,

Just wondering how many of you have installed the larger safety lever?

I bought my S2 for USPSA production, range gun, general plinking and varmint getter.

Seems that big safety might get in the way?

But it also looks like a nice thumb rest.

Would like to hear your experiences.

It depends on your grip.  I use a high grip with both thumbs forward.  The thumb of my shooting hand rests on top of my support hand?s thumb. 

When I shoot 1911/2011?s my shooting hand thumb is riding the safety, mainly to keep it down.  But due to the angle difference on the CZs I don?t do that when shooting the S2.  For me, the heel of my support hand can make contact with the CZ?s wide thumb safety, and in the past it?s bumped the safety up while shooting. 

So when I got my S2 I actually liked that it came with the flat safety, and have been shooting/dry-firing it like that ever since.  I actually prefer it to the wide thumb safety I have on my 75 Shadow. 

IMO, thumb safety on a DA/SA gun in Production is not needed.  It never gets applied during a stage, so being flat and not in my way is the ideal situation.

It all depends on your grip style. Try it with the flat safety first. If you feel that you?re riding the safety as a thumb rest, then you?re better off installing the extended one.

Other than that, there?s really not a lot of instances you?ll be needing to engage the safety since too always start with DA anyway. Unless it?s a classifier or explicitly stated to engage the safety on the WSB, I don?t engage the safety on my Shadow 2 during the COF.

I purchased my S2 from my club. To save space in the safe they open all the gun boxes. As a result i ended up with 4 magazines and no extended safety.  I did not realize for a week so to late to do anything about it. But my thinking is an exta mag worth way more than  the extended safety.

The extended safety made a considerable improvement on my strong-hand-only accuracy and repeatability. Sure, it?s probably just masking a grip problem but I?ll run with it for now.

I did , but I took it off, I don't need it and I found that I was slowly pushing it up as I was shooting .
I never use it so It was just in my way

I've found it depends on how I plan to start the match. Hammer down DA or with safety on and hammer back SA.

If I start with safety on and SA there is no problem with the big lever.

If I start with hammer down and DA, I inadvertently sweep the big lever up. No problem with smaller thin safety.

Of course how you grip the pistol will make a difference.

Shooting steel or anytime other than USPSA Production - say I want to shoot limited - I find the big slide stop invaluable. Otherwise can't get my thumb over far enuf to activate safety. In any case have never had a problem with my left hand pushing it up.

well.. imo the wide safety is the gun. it pulls my hand high into the beaver tail and keeps it there while making a nice fat hole for my support hand to grab hold of the palmswell.  my support hand thumb just flaps in the breeze not doing much of nuthin.

I also find it invaluable for steel. Doesn't bother me for USPSA production and I've started placing my thumb on it - stabilizes the gun

Might also be useful for weak hand stages as a stabiliser.
