CZ 50
« on: January 26, 2019, 08:13:42 AM »
Hi. I am new to this forum.  I live in Midway, Arkansas ( north central part of state ) within sight of Bull Shoals Lake in the Ozark Mountains.
I just recently bought a CZ 50 S/N 551XXX  7.65 mm.  I have been trying to find out when this pistol was made. It was made at Czeska Zbrojovka Armory at Strakonice.
All I can find is that the CZ 50 was produced at the above armory from 1950 to 1952 with serial numbers between 650,000 to 740,000 which is obviously not in my pistol range.
Can anyone help me with info. on this.  I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Wally

Sounds like you may have a CZ 27.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

Is there a letter in front of the serial number? After 1952, production of the VZ 50 was moved to Uhersky Brod and resumed in 1957.

Yours might have been assembled from leftover materials.

All CZ pistols of that era until today have a 2-digit year stamped on the slide.

Would you be able to post some photos of the markings?

I don't see a date stamp in those pictures. My vz50 has the proofmark and year (50) stamped on the left side of the slide in front of the serrations.
I don't look like my avatar!

Mine does as well.

The serial number ranges in the book, Cold War Pistols of Czechoslovakia are only those "reported" and doesn't always contain everything produced.

My opinion is that yours was one of the very first produced, so I would date it as 1950.

Since the box was included in the Gunbroker sale, was there any other documentation or markings on/in the box?

Interestingly, aren?t those vz. 70 grips? Could have been replacements and not the originals? The image of the vz. 50 on the box also has the later ring type hammer. Even the Cold War Pistols book says the serialization of these pistols is murky. Nice find.

Interestingly enough I looked at Gunbroker # 792322223.  Looks like the same serial number range, same grips, same hammer, and same place of manufacture.
Any ideas or comments ??
Thanks a lot,
Wally

I still think these are from an early run batch from 1950.

I don't know if there will ever be a 2nd edition of the book(s) with the serial number/date citations updated, but this forum is about the best place in the world for this information at the present time.
