It?s an AT84s ITM SOLOTHURN. I know it?s most likely a tangfolio made. And imported by action arms. The company is no longer in business. What I?m unclear on is the year or ?pre 88? or after. And the value. I DO NOT intend on selling this . If it?s 1,000$ gun however, I wouldn?t feel right keeping it from this friend. He?s an older gent and more or less a father figured after mine died years ago when I was a youngster please feel free to lend info and your knowledge
As I understand it, the AT-84 (not the AT-84s) is a true clone (i.e., a duplicate/copy). The only other true CZ
clones I've heard of were made by a firm in Great Britain and maybe by China's Norinco.
I've been led to believe that the AT-84s is a CZ-pattern gun (not a true clone) based on Tanfoglio-made or Tanfoglio-licensed parts -- I don't know which. The parts were assembled in Switzerland. I think that some of the craftsmen and senior people who worked at ITM in Solotherm were among those who later developed the highly-regarded Sphinx pistols. Sphinx guns are now being made in the U.S. by Kriss-USA, which was a subsidiary of the last Sphinx Company in Switzerland.
The quality of most ITM-made guns was typically SWISS -- i.e., quite good. I doubt that it's a $1000 gun, but maybe $400- $500 (?) for someone interested in a pre-B type CZ pattern gun. I would expect these guns to go up a little in value over the next few years, as they're still great guns, and like pre-Bs, highly regarded by CZ lovers who know anything about them.
I've had a couple of the AT-84s gun, and still have a custom AT-84s that was supposedly built by a big-name 1980s/1990s gunsmith known for his IPSC guns. (Jim Boland, but I have no proof of that, except the quality of the work and the gun's "look.") It could be confused with a CZ, but only the magazines are swapable. You can get some parts from EAA or the usual gun part sources. They look, feel, and generally shoot just like a CZ -- the oldest ones like a pre-B CZ-75.
Here's mine. All sorts of custom features, extended beavertail and controls, and a full-length guide rod (which I'm not crazy about); it also has a weird Milllett custom rear sight (which is a negative, as the gunsmith cut away a bunch of the slide to fit it, nothing else can be fit, and Millett no longer makes it), and a mag well with custom grip work. (I see, from looking at my photo that I need to do some polishing on the nickel-plated slide, which I had re-done some time back. The original slide of this gun was matte black, and somewhat scratched up.)
