CZ 457 at the Bench.
« on: February 02, 2019, 10:37:51 AM »
Well, not at the bench actually.  It's my wife's glass-topped dining table on our breezeway.  But, she's at work and I'll have all evidence stowed away before she arrives home.

The deep-freeze of the last few days here in KY has passed with temps rising today near 50F.  I took the opportunity to settle on a load in my 457 Lux, and will test it conclusively this weekend in the squirrel woods.  I had more than a few rimfire loads from which to choose.

I am fortunate to be able to shoot from indoors out to 550yds.  In this case though,  25yds sufficed.  The orange dots on the target are 1/2".  I was hoping for squirrel-eye MOA out of this rifle.  I got it.

There is a LOT to like with this latest little rimfire offering from our Czech friends.  One shouldn't think of it as a replacement for his beloved 452's and 455's.  I don't.  It's only an adjunct to the others.

Well at least it looks like your rifle will get tested with a variety of ammo. Nice looking rifle.

Very nice! Just don't forget to slide the screen door open!

What is your scope and ring setup? I am thinking of scoping my 452UL, and I think I am going to go with a Leupold VX Freedom 3x9.

All my CZ rimfires are in 22lr caliber.

I'm using a Leupold 2-7x28mm Rimfire in Leupold 11mm, medium height rings on the 457.

I use the exact same setup on my 455 full-stock.  It suits me fine.  It's just too bad they're no longer making them..

I tried the Leupold 2-7x33 "Freedom" Rimfire, but it's substantially larger and interfered with the front sight on both of the above mentioned rifles.

I put it instead on my 452 American (without sights).  I used Leupold 3/8" , medium height rings.  The bolt handle woundn't clear the ocular bell but a strip of black plastic cut from an oil bottle and set in the lower ring halves gave the clearance needed.

I have a plain-Jane little 455 Carbine also.  I have a Leupold 4x Rimfire sitting upon it, also set the 11mm medium height Leupold rings.

And you are correct, but too late in warning me about the screen door.  Many years ago I put a 400 grain 50cal pill through it from a muzzle-loader. The stench of burning sulfer lingers far too long,  so my wife did not believe me when I told her a speeding hummingbird from one of her many feeders must have flown into the screen and made the hole.

I just picked up a 457 LUX myself, but haven't had a chance to fire it yet.  I guess I will have to wait for it to warm up :(  What type of sling swivels do you have on yours?

Looks like a very nice piece of property. Just don't tell us that you shoot deer out the window while you are on the toilet.  :o

I see the "before" targets, but where are the "after" targets?

Sooooo many ammo choices! I'm envious!
