I installed a Burris FF 3 3moa red dot on the P-10F using a Springer Precision 75B Shadow dovetail mount (from Earl Keese) and shot it this morning. This was after struggling with an old modified non-Shadow mount that wouldn't hold zero. I also put known good red dot from my P-09 on the P-10F just to eliminate one more possible problem and put the one from the P-10F on the P-09.
After getting the zeroes close on both guns, I switched from the Fiocci 124 gr JHP to the Atlanta Arms 115 JHP and put up two aim points at 50 yards, one for the P-10F and one for the P-09. Then I shot 5 rounds from each gun, using the same ammo and rest and sights. After the first 10, I liked the results, so I took a little more time and shot 5 more from each gun. Here is what the 20 shots looked like after I was done.
I still have problems seeing the dot well enough to eliminate the horizontal spread, but these results look good to me. Essentially no vertical spread from either gun and the horizontal spread is me. The 4 shot group for the P-10F is 1.5", exactly as I was hoping to see today, once I got the sight issue resolved.
I did not have any "bad groups" or fliers today from either gun. Of course, I never have any with the P-09. The P-10F was the unknown, and I can safely say now that the lockup on my particular P-10F is as good as my absolutely perfect P-09.
So, in early March, I'll take the P-10F to the rifle bay and shoot it (and maybe the P-09 for a control) at 100 yards from a rest. I'm expecting 6" or better, if my vision and trigger finger can support it.
Yes, a striker fired gun is harder for me to shoot well than a hammer gun. But I am pretty sure I can learn to do it, now that the gun appears stable enough for me to see what I am doing.
