CZ Shadow Orange 91764
« on: February 26, 2019, 02:12:50 PM »
Hey all,

I have a quick question as I stumbled across one of these beauties at my local gun store. I understand this version of the Shadow Orange has the CZC shop treatment done to it, on top of the already hand fitted barrel and slide CZ factory does.

My question is this: would this gun benefit at all from the addition of an Accu bushing or CGW 10x bushing? It sounds like the tolerances of the factory barrel bushing are tighter than a normal Shadow variant. Am I thinking about this correctly? I was reading reviews of the 91764 Shadow Orange and someone mentioned how tight the slide lockup was, as well as the barrel tolerances.

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks

I can relate my experience as having recently purchased a Shadow Orange SP-01 that did not have the custom shop treatment. Forget what distributor it was purchased from but paid $1399 for it.

While CZC may include regulating the sights in their custom treatment, the POA/POI was off on mine shooting high and to the left. This at 10 yards. I noticed a slight amount of movement between the barrel and barrel bushing at lockup. So, I moved the rear sight to the right and ordered a taller front sight to get POA/POI. Would highly recommend a sight pusher as the rear sight is extremely tight if you need to move.

Because of the slight movement of the end of the barrel at lockup with the bushing, I ordered a CGW 10X version. Can tell you that the factory bushing on the Shadow Orange is really in there. Finally got it out using the tried and true 11mm socket method that CGW recommends and got the 10X installed. What I can tell you is that after installation my groups shifted to the right. Wound up having to move my rear sight back to dead center to re-achieve POA/POI. Of the two bushings the 10X improved the groups slightly over the existing factory bushing. As the tolerances seem to vary, you will have to determine if the 10X will be a benefit.

Interesting. Thank you for sharing that. From what I gather, the majority of the CZC treatment on the 91764 is mostly trigger and action work (ghost hammer etc). They also put their defender sights on it as well. I'm really hoping I wouldn't have to touch a darn thing out of the box as far as POI goes. That would be extremely disappointing if you ask me!

Looking at their custom version, the sights appear to be the exact same as the non custom. At least the ones on mine are. Hopefully CZC regulates these.

I have installed CGW's RRK that includes their less curved trigger and floating trigger pin. The extended FP, RP FP spring, 11 lb recoil and hammer springs have also been installed. The pistol is a tack driver and is now one of my favorites.

I think you are right about the sights being the same. They looked different in the one picture I saw but you're most likely correct on that. Sorry for the confusion.

Great to hear you are satisfied with it. I am strongly considering snagging this 91764 at my local gun shop. I was holding out to get an accu-Shadow but I think this Orange would do just fine (if not better in some instances).

I can always put a bushing on the Orange, but I can't get a hand fitted slide and barrel on an Accu. At least that is how I look at it.

What did the CZC test target look like?

It would be good if Stuart would respond to this thread and indicate if they regulate the sights on the custom version.

And/Or hear from existing Shadow Orange SP-01 owners that purchased the custom version how theirs shot out of the box.

I agree. I'm sure it shoots incredible out of the box but I'm trying to compare the 91764 to the Accu-Shadow in comparison. Does the hand fitted slide/barrel (no accu-bushing) match the accuracy of the Accu-Shadow? The price points are very close in value.

I'm also on the fence on which one to buy. I want the most accurate one.

I'd like to know what ammo is used for testing and at what distance.

A test target shot at 50 feet is almost useless.

the custom version of the SP01 Shadow Orange, we do a trigger job with the Ghost hammer, install a short reset disconnector, extended firing pin, re-spring the gun and test fire. Target should be in case, 10 yards, 6 round, shot off hand.

If I have things right - big if.

Every Shadow 1 Orange came from CZ to the US with product code 01165. The leading 0 implies 10 round magazines but 18 round magazines are typically supplied and the product code becomes 91165, but the code on the box shipped with the gun will still be left as 01165.

Depending on when the 91165 was manufactured it may or may not have a height adjustable rear sight and a drilled & tapped mag catch with a paddle. The product code was not changed to reflect these changes.

91164 guns are as the expert described above - I do not know if there was an early version 91164 and a later version 91164.

Any corrections are appreciated, just trying to figure this stuff out, for a gun purchase decision above $1300 it is nice to know the details.

Since the Shadow2 Orange is my first CZ, I'm not familiar with the SP-01 at all.

What I can verify is that this Shadow 2 Orange is one of the most accurate, out of the box, pistols I have ever owned!
