Stock guide rod

Does anyone else modify the plastic guide rod to use different recoil springs? My last P09 had a cap at the end and I pried it off. This newer P09 seems like a one piece design. I took a Dremel to it.

Question 2: I've yet to try a stainless guide rod.  Am I missing out on a lot?

If you want to use some of the available lighter recoil springs from the custom shops i believe that they require a replacement guide rod. The only ones i have seen are metal.

A metal guide god can add a bit of weight to the front of a pistol. Other than that i have been unable to establish any issues with the factory poly guide rods.

     Hiya and thx for your thread. Concur with Tok36 that no issues with poly rods, for cosmetics have used SS, wasted the cash on DPM,and aware I could use a Lowe's door hinge pin if I wanted. Have pried a cap off to replace springs once. Bed well.

I think the factory guide rods for the p series are over sprung especially considering the diminutive size of the slides. I have had great functionality with 15# spring weights and the gun is easier to manipulate and has less felt recoil. That being said the factory one works too and comes with the gun so to each their own

I agree the stock recoil spring is heavy. Just curious if anyone else modifies the plastic guide rod like this?  Most recommendations for a stainless guide rod is to use different recoil spring weights, but modifying the plastic one does the same thing

When I was digging around on this I found that it is mostly cosmetic and some people just wanna get rid of as much "plastic" from the pistol as they can.   I knew it was bullbleep, but I still got one for my p09 because I just wanted to have everything from CGW I could in it...that's not financially smart but it is what I wanted.

Adding a guide rod or any other part could be considered not financially smart but it is part of the personalization process that we all engage in.
My Sig M11A1 came with a steel guide rod but it was hollow so I found a company that makes a nice black nitrided stainless replacement. I like the look much better.

Mine was very stiff out of the box. I?ve shot it a lot and I would also leave it in the safe with the slide locked back. Now i consider the original captured spring on the plastic guide rod my ?light? spring. I bought the newer steel guild rod captured spring for my full power load. The original spring now functions lightly loaded Steel Challenge loads.

Mine came with a metal guide rod/spring assembly, but I replaced it with this: https://ssguiderods.com/shop/cz-p10-c/

The original made an obnoxious screeching sound as the spring moved down the guide rod. The new one does a little bit, but nowhere near as bad, and with some gun grease on it, the sound basically disappears.

The original's spring was very tight and brass kept coming straight back and hitting me in the forehead. The new one doesn't do that.

I would not personally use a polymer guide rod at all. I've seen pictures of someone's who had their's shatter and the resulting shards ended up damaging the locking block's mounting into the pistol frame. They ended up having to send the whole thing back to CZ. The same thing has occasionally been seen to happen on some Glocks with the single stage polymer guide rods too.
