Extended safety for CZ-97B
« on: April 19, 2019, 02:46:28 PM »
I have a CZ-97B and I would like to get an extended safety.  My thumb can barely reach the safety and I would like a longer, more easier to reach safety lever.

What safety could I use? And where can I get one?

Not sure if anything is out there right now. If there is, I'm definately interested.

In the mean time, I'm thinking about having my safety modifed to have a "ledge" on the top. The sloping suface, though grooved, doesn't provide a positive contact surface for my thumb.

CZ Customs or Cajun Gun Works should be able to help you out on this one. I know that the 75 SA style safety lever can be installed on a 97 with the proper modification. I am thinking that the CZ Customs rocker style extended safety lever is also compatible with the 97. Let it be known that replacement safety levers require fitting to the pistol that they are installed in so that the safety will function properly.

Reference for CZC rocker extended safety.

Reference for 75 SA style safety. Note: there is an option for single sided safety modification. I suggest contacting CGW for guidance on CZ 97 compatibility.

Tok36 is correct,  the 29es will work in the 97 with some fitting and a little milled/cut off the end.

If CZ just extended the raised portion of the safety all the way to the back (maybe it starts out that way and they mill it to to make it look like the reverse of the slide stop?), it probably would work better for me even with the slope.  Not sure if I want to go through the motions to make the 29es work on my pistol. What about you, OP?

Mine dropped right in and functions perfectly, though it does protrude slightly on the right side.

Hiya and thx for the thread FluffytheCat. I recently sold mine to a forum member and they were having CZC put on ambi safety and mentioned needing to use the 75's to do the job,and cost estimated around 300 bucks.
But Fluffy you mention having trouble even reaching the safety,so shoot us a pic with your hand on the gun so we can picture the issue. Longer might not do it if you can't reach it,lower might be what you need. Be well.

Another question to Earle

I installed the extended safety on my 97B and found that while the gun shot factory new ammo fine, it would jam with any of my reloads. Didn?t quite figure out why. I?m guessing that the stem of the extended safety throws the sear gage a bit out of alignment, not enough to effect factory but enuf so it wont handle reloads.

Any experience with that? I went back to the original safety and everything was fine.

It sticks out about half as far as the slide stop. At the moment it doesn't bother me, but at some point I'll cut it flush. I'll probably round some edges on the left side and re-blue it.
It takes a little getting used to, but you never have to take your thumb off of it. It just rocks back and forth, which is nice.

So with the original safety, the reloads feed fine? What kind of jambs did you have when the extended safety was in?

Earl,

Thanks for the photo. I just wanted see how much material there was to work with to make it look right.

Fluffythecat: Thanks for starting this topic. By the number of views garnered in such a short period of time, there are a few others that have the same desire to have a more substantial safety lever, and this topic has provided a few options.

Earle,

The slide would nor Pick up a fresh cartridge and instead stop halfway into battery w the spent round ejected and the fresh round in the magazine and the chamber open so I could look in.

I probably should out the extended back in and experiment some more but was using it for steel matches.  So I just wanted it to work. Figured out how to slide my thumb down w the stock safety.

As you may have already figured out if the safety will fit a 75B it will fit the 97B.
