N330 question

I scored some Berry's 124gr HBRN-TP on sale, so starting to work up a load. VV data doesn't have anything with this bullet and N330, naturally. 
What it does have is start at 3.4gr for 886 fps with N320
and 4.1gr for 984 fps with N340.
Berrys sez "use any jacketed bullet data of the same weight" (!)
VV says start at 4.2 for Ranier JRNs. (scratching head)

I was thinking to start at 3.6gr. Does this sound reasonable? I've read of too low of a load not being a good thing, either.. <shrug>

3.6 sounds too low. That's lower than the start load for N320.

Why not use the data for the Rainier 124 RN? It too is a plated bullet.

Starting load is 4.2.

So, I did my due diligence and started at 3.6. It cycled and dropped the first case at my feet. "Hmmm.. don't see a hole in the target." Walked up and dang if it wasn't in the X ring.  Two more (I only made three because I thought it might be too low, too.. were right there, too. Circled in red.



Made up a series going up by 0.1gr to 4.4gr. All shot very well. The 4.4gr is the three not circled. *very* consistent groups. These were shot off hand at 25 feet. By the time I got to 4.4, the CZ was beginning to throw the brass farther than I wanted to go looking for it. I don't have a chronograph, so didn't go any farther. I have a birthday coming up, though..

Chuck...what data source are you using?

The VV guide I have doesn't have a single load starting at 3.6 for N320 with a 124 gr projectile.

I use the N330 data for the 124gr Ranier.  I thinks that's the most applicable and thus the safest.

N330 is a very good powder in 9mm.  5 shots at 15 yards.  MG 124 JHP  N330 4.2gn OAL 1.090   CZ 75 SP-01 shadow from a ransom rest.
