CZ 82?s from Robertson Trading Post
« on: May 11, 2019, 11:57:04 AM »
Has anyone got one of the re-blacked CZ 82 in 9x18 from Robertson Trading Post recently? I noticed they are only $259 on GB, and wanted to see if anyone has one to give a review

Both the wifie and I have them and the guy cross the street bought one when he saw mine .
If u get one with the KAC mag it may need some filing on the front top to get it to drop free.
Darn nice lookin piece !

AAA+++ seller.

After inspection and work I have found it is NOT a mag problem ,but a grip problem.
The grips have a small shelf  that locates the grip to the frame.I backed the both grip bolts
out a 1/2 turn (.010) and the mags will drop free.

I have bought 8 so far.........

I bought one that was sold as is on my C&R license.  The finish paint was rough as I expected.  Bore and internals very good.  Similar to what J&G sells.  I?ve bought 7 surplus CZ 82?s to refinish.  J&G includes a nice leather holster and mag holder.  With chipped grips, these sell for $199.  I think they are the best surplus pistol to be had.

Wood grips are from CZ USA.  Cost was $55 plus shipping.  Perfect fit once you remove some wood on the top rear.  If you don?t, it will surely crack.  When the grip panel is flush along the backstrap, you can tighten the screw.  I have had to relieve even plastic grip panels this way.  Maybe the fit to an 83 would not require this.  Answer to question otherwise is by PM.

This is the only area on the grips from CZ USA that I?ve had to modify for the CZ82.  All the chipped plastic grips I?ve seen are broken here.  Even the originals.

If your grips don?t fit like this, they will crack when the screw is tightened.

If you look closely, you can see the crack on the right grip that I had to glue.

My factory grips fit fine in the area you have shown, but required sanding near the screw on the right inside. Other posts in this forum address grip cracking also. One member fixed his with cyanoacrylate (CA) glue. Something I didn't know could be done. Web research discovered wood pen crafters use it for finishing and strengthening their wood blanks. I chose Starbond EM-02. Their claim was deep penetration, due to its viscosity just above water. I finished my grips with 3 coats front and back sides. My grips did not crack at assembly, but I have not been to the range to torture test.

You apply thin coats with your finger. HINT: use disposable nitrile gloves. I kind of found out after beginning, that body moisture on your fingers accelerates the curing process.
