P-10s magazine extension reviews!!!
« on: May 20, 2019, 01:23:56 AM »
So I recently purchase two different magazine extensions for my P10s and wanted to give you guys some thoughts on the qaulity, fitment and capacity. Just putting this out there I have no affiliation with any brand or company at all. The first one I purchased was from a company called Shield Arms, this extension is supposed to add 5 rounds comes with a replacement magazine spring and cost $44.94 shipped to my door.  I like the capacity gains but it looks rather awkward. It does indeed bring the magazine capacity up to 17 rounds which is a big plus. The overall height of the pistol with this extension is 5 5/8" tall from the very bottom of the magazine plate to the top of the slide. I did not measure to the top of the sights to take into consideration some people may have changed out their sights. The installation of the Shields arms extension is fairly quick and painless. The product fits great and it is a quality made part. Only complaint is like I said it just looks out of place. The next company I decided to try is HYVE this magazine extension is supposed to bring the capacity up to 15 rounds, I could only fit 14 rounds until I brought out the pry bar. So yes technically you can jam a 15th round into the magazine but I then could not fully seat the magazine. I paid $30.99 delivered to my door. Again this product is made to the quality standards you would expect when picking up a great firearm such as a CZ. The total overall height of the pistol with this magazine plate installed is 5 1/8" tall.(Which is the same height as my P-01 which also holds 14 rounds). Installation of this magazine is easier than the Shield arms but again they both are within most firearm's owners skillset. HYVE however does not come with a replacement magazine spring, that being said I have not had any feed issues as of yet with it. The fitment of the HYVE is amazing, it is aesthetically pleasing as well. So until someone makes a sleeve to fit over the factory 15 rounders that come with the P-10C I would have to say I am going to continue to purchase the HYVE extensions, with the hope that eventually I will be able to load 15 rounds into it. I attached photos to compare all three configurations as well as a comparison to a standard P-01. I hope this helps you guys in your decision to choose a magazine extension for the almighty P-10s. Oh and both companies shipped the product in a timely fashion. Hopefully these photos upload I am not computer savvy. If you cannot view them please let me know I will try again. I added the links to the magazine extensions.

I saw the Shield Arms extension online and you're right, it just looks like a jigsaw puzzle.

I need to check out the Hyve ones. Sure would like to see your pics if you can figure out how to load them.

I presume the Hyve extension you are looking at is the p10c "+3?"

I like their design and would likely bring one of two of these home.

Thanks!

I've tried the True Precision +5 on a P10f magazine. It's only +4 and does not allow the slide to lock back.

Thank you. Great revue.
I suppose your pinky fits right over the extension? (compare to OEM magazines)

I have the shield arms base pads. I really like them. I had the +5 CZ customs ones and I did not like them. Definitely recommend the +10% springs with any basepad over +2 just to be safe.

Interesting, didn't know there were S product upgrades out already, very cool. I would love to see the C mags sleeved myself, and yes, that one extension looks very weird indeed.

Do you have a link or a sku number for these +5 base pads. I can?t find them on the CZ custom site. I need some base pads to get the max amount of rounds in the C frame in case I decide to use my C frame on my F slide for carry optics Divison. Still needs to make the 140mm rule.

I have hands that fit in a medium glove, so my pinky just barely fit with the original base pad. I honestly am changing the magazines bases to add more capacity when carrying as my duty pistol. This way I can put the factory base magazine back in to carry AIWB when off duty. To answer your question yes now my hands fit perfectly with room to spare. My father wears an X-large glove and now he can get a full grip on the pistol too.

Now it's saying adds 4 but either way. I don't recommend these with standard springs. I actually just don't recommend them at all. The Shield arms ones come with a +10% spring and I've had no issues with them at all. I also do like the slimmer form factor. The CZ Customs ones would touch each other in my mag carrier since they're longer front to back at the base. The Shield Arms bases are slimmer. The only thing I'd be wary of is that the shield arms plates MAY allow over insertion of the mags. Little more gap at the base.

How would you rate the fitment of these extensions? Do they fit nice and tight or do they wobble ? Does the spring lock seem sturdy?

The ones I had were not sturdy. They bent that retaining bracket when hitting the deck. I've sent photos to CZ Customs and haven't been thrilled with their customer service honestly. They're sending me new brackets to try but I was also experiencing an issue with last round slide lock and sometimes the spring got jammed up and failed to feed. That issue hasn't been addressed by them though I did let them know about it. The only thing I can say for the cz customs basepads is that they look more integrated and are simpler to install. Simpler in that there are fewer parts. The Shield Arms ones are by no means difficult. The base plates are a little wobbly in fitment when empty but are perfectly functional when loaded.

Ahh good to know thank you, I thought that system looked a like a horrible idea. The shield arms are a little loose until loaded, but as you mentioned I too haven't had any issues with them not operating properly.  I am onto my next adventure,  trying to find factory SP-01 magazine base plates for my P-01.

If it still matters to anyone here, I just completed my 2nd two-day class dropping my shield mags all over the gravel (wiping them off afterwards, of course) and experienced not a single malfunction after about 500 rounds. That will now be a total of maybe 1500 rounds through 3 main mags I've designated my "beater" mags with 2 others that stay loaded in case I run low and don't get a chance to top off. Spoiler alert, with 19 rounds across 3 mags that didn't tend to happen much. The base pads now have some "character" to them but I still believe them to have been a wise choice.
