Today I picked up my VZ-58 from the gunsmith after a 3 month wait. I know many of you have previously seen pics of my VZ-58 on here. Well I was itching to modify two things that I didn?t like but both require a gunsmith. First, I wanted to replace the Hammerhead muzzle brake with one that?s lighter and shorter in length. So I did some research and found the perfect muzzle brake for my needs, made by D-Force in the Czech Republic. This new muzzle brake is made out of titanium, weighs 1.13 ounces and is about 7/8? of an inch shorter. The only problem was D-Force only sells it?s products to countries in the European Union. I even contacted the company by email to see if they could make an exception for me but nope. Long story short, I obtained it.

Here is the D-Force Supermini muzzle brake:

Second, I did not like the optic I was using which was the Aimpoint Micro H-1. I felt that the H-1 was too large and had a big footprint. So I purchased the Leica Tempus red dot with 2.0 MOA which is much lighter and smaller. Since I wanted to co-witness I tried to find a low profile mount for the Lieca but no luck. I came to realization that the Leica red dot would have to be mounted directly to my Bonesteel Arms upper rail. So I sent both items along with the rifle to the gunsmith to have the changes made.

Here is the Bonesteel Arms upper rail that I had modified to mount my Leica Red Dot (bottom) compared to a typical Bonesteel Arms upper rail:

Here are a couple pics of the whole rifle. As you can see I modified it to accept AR-15 pistol grips. I am very happy with it's weight. It weighs 6.64 pounds (without the magazine, red dot, sling, front vertical grip). Big shout out to Ken at Global Military Gunsmithing who replaced the muzzle brake and fabricated the red dot mount.

I added two sling attachments, one on the left side of the lower rail and one directly behind the castle nut. With my convertible sling I now have lots of ways to attach the sling.

Here the sling is in two-point configuration and attaching to the front mount hole with a hook and at the rear on the buttstock with a QD swivel:

Here the sling is in two-point configuration attaching at the front mount hole with a hook and at the end plate located on the buffer tube with a QD swivel:

Converted the sling to one-point and attached at the buttstock with a QD swivel:
