New kids out of layaway.
« on: May 24, 2019, 09:20:04 PM »
Just picked these up recently, and hoping to get them to the range tomorrow; Czechpoint VZ 58 CQB, and a pair of HK P2000SK?s (one V3 DA/SA, one V2 LEM).

Already falling in love with how handy the VZ 58 is compared to my PSAK-47, especially with a full mag. A temporary problem however, is that my sight adjustment tool is up in Ohio, which really does me a lot of good when I?m down here in Florida for the next couple of days! [emoji23]

You can say that again!!!! Will be glad to get it properly zeroed, but not bad for right out of the box!

The halfway decent group below the aiming square is two five shot strings from a makeshift rest on the bench fired @ 25 yards then, I fired twenty rounds, shot every two to three seconds from standing, unsupported position @ 100 yards. Those are all marked with circles around them.

Definitely not my best shooting for accuracy, but was more concerned with getting out to the range and having some fun. Which I continued doing by drilling the 100 yard plates.

I?m in love with this thing for sure! Definitely lighter felt recoil and faster shot recovery than my AK, and the BHO is nice versus hearing ?Click?. I do however, have one small complaint; friggin hand guard got extremely heated after firing so quickly. Anyone have suggestions for heat shield installation or a hand guard swap?

Since this post is pretty much about the VZ, will you or Grendel please move it to the appropriate section versus here? Thanks!

So moved.

Congratulations on your new toys!  8)  Particularly, the Vz58, but the H&K Pistols are very nice, too!  :)

The only mod I would probably do to your Vz58 is adapt the stock to being a Folder, and have it fold to the left.

JWC, thank you, and please accept my apologies for forgetting you?re a moderator also!

I actually like the stock as is, especially since I might consider the Czechpoint rail BUIS adapter. Besides that, probably going to get the side rail and adapter since it?s already drilled and tapped for it, and still flirting with the idea of the left side charging handle (RSR?). Already ordered the extended bolt release lever from Zahal last week. Oh, and definitely need to find a solution to the forearm concerning a heat shield. Yeah, I?m still old-school when it comes to holding onto the rifle forearm when firing LOL.

You can always use brash rod and a hammer to move the front sight.  Best to score the teflon first on the sight block -- works a bit like paint to hold things together.  I can't get over how unnecessarily long Czechpoints Phantom flash hider is -- at least an extra 1/2-3/4" there from the looks of it mounted vs the old CNCW ones.

If your handguns are in 40 S&W, you made a good call -- unlike many guns, several of the HK variants were built for 40 cal and scaled down rather than vice versa.  But in 9mm, they're often overbuilt.

AKs typically fold to left as 90* charging handles would possibly hit, or ejection issues w/ brass hitting the handle.

I prefer VZ58's standard right folding.  Slick side against you when slung tight and stock folded, and b/c VZ58s eject more up than to the side, and b/c the upward swept charging handle minimizes any interference issues.

If you want a left side charging handle you would have to buy a spare bolt carrier from Checkpoint with the handle milled on the left. These are new production from CSA.

When I bought my Vz 58 directly from Checkpoint they were in stock and went for that option which cost extra, but less than the price of a new bolt carrier.

As far as heat shields, you might try something like self adhesive tape for car engines like Thermo-Tec (I haven't tried this myself).

If you think the black polymer hand guards heat up, that's nothing compared to the phenol+wood chips (beaver barf) those things get ripping hot! (They look neat and historical but I don't use them).

As far as optic solutions, I would recommend the skeletonized side optic rails sold by Checkpoint; they work just as well, and are considerably lighter than the standard rails. I bought the standard ones first and was surprised by how heavy they were. I never installed them and returned them for the skeletonized which weigh about half as much.

As for the optic mount, the cheaper option is the CSA mount sold by Checkpoint or the the nicer option IMO - the RS Regulate. Both will work fine.

I went with the RS Regulate VZ-304M  with the AKML (Aimpoint Micro) for the Holosun & Primary Arms red dots that I already own and think that it is fantastic. RS Regulate isn't cheap but it is the best out there.

If you're going to have an optic mount with a folding stock, I would recommend a right side folder.

Keep in mind that with a side rail and optic rail installed on the rifle, you looking at at least 3/4 inch sticking out from the left side of the receiver which might prevent you from properly folding the stock.
