Good morning:

I'm planning on sending my gun off to Cajun for the pro package.  One lingering question I have is I like the ring hammer, especially the stainless.  What is the advantage of using the race hammer and does it make that much difference which one you choose given the work they do on the gun with the pro package?

Race hammer:  Easier to cock (and decock on safety models), more surface area for the thumb to work with
Ring hammer:  Easier to carry, may have clearance issue with some rear sights

I think it is a personal choice.  Others may provide some insights based on experiences.  Functionally, both will work equally well.

Only the upper portion of the CGW Ring and Race hammers are different, they both function exactly the same.

Functionally, the both do the job a hammer is suppose to do......I will say the softer contour of the Ring hammer is more comfortable when carrying in certain instances.  Reason being the Race hammer has some pointed/sharper corners which can, again depending on how you carry will dig at you.  I used to use the Race hammers, but since have migrated to the Competition hammers, either from CGW or CZC.

     Hiya and thanks for your thread. I was under the impression the custom hammer install is also combined with trigger work and the shop being aware of what you want to feel in SA/DA trigger pull. And since I'd imagine that custom shops bread and butter items would include hammer and trigger packages, the mods improve and customize performance and help keep the aftermarket industry alive.
     If you are sending it to Dave, I'm sure he or one of his technical staff would be glad to answer your question to make sure there are no misunderstandings for you and the investment you are considering. Be well.
