Storing a New P-10C.
« on: May 31, 2019, 10:17:49 PM »
I just picked up a NIB 2018 Ambi magazine release model.  I bought it because a) it was cheap, b) I like the Ambi mag release better than the reversible release.  I have no immediate plans to use this pistol, so would there be any issue of leaving the pistol in the original case and coatings, or should I clean it and inspect it periodically?

Thank you in advance.

You can store it pretty much indefinitely in the original box. Just make sure it's in a safe, away from moisture.

I was trying to find a article I read a while back on gun storage but I remember it saying that keeping it in the case with foam may not be desirable because the foam can attract moisture.

Put the gun silicone impregnated gun sock in the safe. I just got one for my 1911 that may sit in the safe for a couple months or more.

Take it out periodically and wipe it down and lube it with CLP.

I store mine in their hard plastic boxes, cleaned, with a little desiccant bag to protect from moisture.

I read [an article] a while back on gun storage but I remember it saying that keeping [the gun] in the case with foam may not be desirable because the foam can attract moisture.

That's why newer CZs come in closed cell (not open cell) foam packing.

In all likelihood, your new pistol just made a trip across the Atlantic Ocean. If the salt air and salt water didn't leave any trace of corrosion on your new gun, then an unfired gun sitting in your gun safe in Kansas is not likely to do anything worse.

I live in a City and before I bought made sure I was well above flood levels.   I stayed high and dry and the floods didn't affect me.  Where I work they had people that had to detour around the flooded areas and their commute times went from 30 minutes to over an hour.  Some people couldn't make it into work, and one day they allowed people that lived in the affected areas to go home early.  Good point though.
