CZ 82 getting hard chromed
« on: June 15, 2019, 11:04:39 AM »
I just sent my CZ 82 and 3 mags to Ron Mahovsky for hard chrome. After looking at all the guns he's done, I can't wait. Now I have to pick out new grips to finish it off. I'll be looking back through the forum at some I've seen posted, but if anyone has suggestions I'm open. I'm kind of leaning towards a dark wooden set, but I'm open to anything. Chime in if you want, I'll be happy to listen. Once it gets back and I get some grips on it, I'll try to learn how to post pictures. I'll go over the whole gun and tell you what I think. I'll also want to hear from everyone else about their likes or dislikes since I still have another that's waiting for a do over. I'll also tell everyone about the finish of the gun and what I think of the hard chrome. I've been talking with Ron and Kim for a month or so, just asking questions and trying to decide what finish to go with. They both seem like great people and it seems like their work is their passion and they've went above and beyond helping me. If the gun comes out half as nice as they are, it should be perfect. We'll see, enjoy

Canik in hard chrome with Marschall grips. Looks like I left it a little big so you will have to click on it to see gun and grips together.

BTW you can't post pics direct they have to be hosted elsewhere (like Imgur) and linked to here.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

I don?t have a hard chrome in the 82/83 to show but here are samples of wooden grips from three manufacturers. From left to right on the first photo...Klinsky (Czech), Grips4U (USA) and Marschal (Hungary). The Grips4U ones were a terrible fit for drop free mags across several pistols and required lots of sanding on the inside. Marschal grips have a very long lead time (10-12 weeks) but I have never experienced any fit issues with 83s. The second photos are also Marschal (wattle and zebra woods). The third is utilitarian carbon fiber from Prestige Grips. If you have a smartphone or tablet, the Tapatalk app allows you to post on the forum directly from your phone?s photo library.

I?ll be ditching the Marschal grips for plastic or fiber and colored to match my Yamaha.  If you do them, make sure to make the adjustments for the 82, since his are made for the 83 and tend to crack if it isn?t shaved in the right spot.  Basically top center on the inside of the grip needs a bit of shaving.   Especially the right side.

I assume you?ve seen my pics already as the posts are recent.

Got the gun back, it looks great. I went with the brushed look. It came back perfect. I also sent 3 mags and an extra finger guard. I also sent a new spring set that they installed after the refinish. I couldn't be happier. It looks and feels like a new gun. I'll try to post pics, but not to tech savvy when it comes to posting pics. Ron did a wonderful job and I think I'll take another 82 and get it done in bright chrome. If anyone has dark wood grips they want to sell let me know. I think I'd like the finger groove style. I bought new factory plastic grips and they look great on the gun. I like the dark grips on this gun. Ron also got rid of the ugly import marks on the left side of slide. It's like it was never there.

I as so impressed with checking his site as well as reading the recommendations here that I sent two CZ82's off to him yesterday to work his magic.

Haven't figured out how to insert pics yet. I have another 82 ready to ship out, just haven't got to the post office. I'll try to add some pics soon. Enjoy

For info on posting pics, go to Important Information! on this site's homepage, then Posting Pictures With Ingmur.  Ron and Kim were great to work with when Ron refinished my CZ 82.  I, too, had him install a complete set of springs for the peace of mind of knowing their condition.
