How much does your VZ-58 weigh?

Every time I see a picture of a VZ-58 on the internet, it is loaded with accessories...some kid of sight/red dot, tactical light, bipod, foregrip. I just think, that rifle must weigh a lot. A stock vz-58 chambered in 7.62x39mm weighs approximately 6.66 to 7.28 pounds with empty magazine (depending on model). Every time I change or add something to my rifle, I always consider weight first. My goal is always to keep the rifle as light as possible. Currently with a Leica red dot, foregrip and magazine I am weighing 6.84 pounds. I just replaced the Daniel Defense stock and buffer tube with a Smoke Composites stock.

Ill have to weigh mine tomorrow. Its not the lightest gun in the world but i agree that weight plays a factor in ones use of a rifle. My VZ is a pistol but the brake i have on it is heavy. I dont have a soght mounted typically, but do have an aimpoint PRO ready to go. Its only got the SB 1913 folding brace on it, though, so all the weight is in the front since that things light as a feather comparatively. I also ordered two of Czechpoints new poly 7.62 mags today - probably not too much of a weight difference, but we’ll see.

My D-technik has the 15.5" barrel with pinned extension, a left side charging handle, and old style czech folding stock with barf handguards.  It weighs in at 8lb 7oz with a loaded 30 in it. Dry weight is barely under 7 lbs since the loaded mag is exactly 1 lb 8 oz.  Keepin it nice and light although theres a mount that bolts up between the stock and reciever that could be big enough for a primary arms 3x prism that id like to try out.  That would easily add another 1.5lbs at least

Since I already had the scale pulled out I decided to weigh a couple of my other go to setups for a reference.  The VZ 58 was hands down the lightest rifle setup by a proverbial mile

So for reference

Scorpion Evo 8" pistol w/ SB brace, vortex razor reflex site, Silencerco octane 9HD, TLR 1HL, FA binary trigger, and 30rnd factory mag -7lb 12oz

Steyr AUG 556 w/ 16" barrel OSS Helix 762 suppressor, PA 1-8 Gen III in vortex 2" cantilever mount, and 40 rnd mag
 -12lb 13oz no suppressor is 10lb 15oz

Zastava M77 308 20" barrel w/ hogue pistol grip, krebs custom fore end, PWS 47 brake, vortex strike eagle in RS regulate mount with Warne low rings, and 20 rnd CSSPEC magazine -12lb 5oz, no optic and mount -10lb 7 oz

I plan on replacing the Daniel Defense stock and buffer tube with a Smoke Composites stock, just waiting for it to come. That will reduce my weight to approximately 6.8 pounds.

What kind of red dot is that and do you like it? I have a similar front set up and am in the market to get a red dot.

Thanks, I got er resized, usually I put an "l" at the end and it accomplishes the same thing but a little smaller.  I wasnt payin attention today

What kind of red dot is that and do you like it? I have a similar front set up and am in the market to get a red dot.

It is a Leica Tempus 2.0 MOA red dot, retail is $600. Previously I had an Aimpoint Micro but I wanted something lighter and with a smaller footprint. I really the Leica Tempus. It is mounted on a Bonesteel Arms upper handguard which I had machined so it mounts directly to the handguard (no picatinny mount) and sits low enough to absolute co-witness. The red dot is approximately 1.5mm above the piston, thats how low it is.
