Act-Mag CZ 75b magazine
« on: July 29, 2019, 05:22:29 PM »
Anybody heard about Act-Mag magazines for CZ-75b, 15 and 17 rounds?
It is cheaper than Mec-Gar, only $18.99 on Brownells, but I read that it is produced in Italy, so I'd expect good quality.

Ordered one from Brownells (I caught coupon with 10% off + free shipping).

First time I've ever heard of them.  Let us know how they work!

I use ACT mags in my SIG 220 Legion and they work great.  Never used in a CZ.

I see them for sale on the Greg Cote, LLC web site.

The last Mecgar 16 rounders I bought were about $18, so I never really thought about the ACT magazines.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Went to the Greg Cote Website, and after reading some of the reviews, decided to order some of the 17 round ACT-MAG Cz75 Magazines and see how they work in my Cz Clones and Cz SP01.
Ordered three of them.   http://gregcotellc.com/cart/cz-factory-mecgar-actmag-c-173/actmag-cz-75b-85b-sp01-shadow-2-17-round-magazine-45204-p-1875.html

Otherwise, I had planned on getting some more of the Mec-Gar Cz75B Magazines, but these were a bit less on price at $18.95 each.
My preferred Mec-Gar Cz75B 17 round Magazine is currently selling at $24.95 each.  http://gregcotellc.com/cart/cz-factory-mecgar-actmag-c-173/cz-75b-cz-85b-cz-75-sp01-cz-shadow-2-17-rd-9mm-mgcz7517afc-p-591.html

I will post a full review upon full Range Testing in my Cz Clones and Cz SP01.

Not all Magazines made in Italy are of good quality.  Sabatti Magazines, made in Italy, have been pretty bad.  Tanfoglio has occasionally sourced Magazines from Sabatti, with bad results.
Since Brownells is carrying ACT-MAG, and Brownells is not known for selling junk anything, I expect they should be good.

My magazine arrived. Looks good, pretty much like Mec-Gar. I tested "dry-action" with my Sarsilmaz Mega 2000 and CM9 Gen2.
I will take it to the range to test with live rounds.

I have both MecGars and Act Mags for my Beretta 92 and I find no difference in function or reliability.

The ACT-MAG order from Greg Cote arrived this last weekend.  However, the Magazines received came in packages marked RIA-MAG with the Rock Island Armory logo on them.
This was a bit disconcerting, knowing how bad the Magazines that came with my Tanfoglio/RIA MAP1 Series Pistols were.

These may be just repackaged ACT-MAG Magazines, but nowhere is there identified a Country of Origin on the Magazines or packaging,
so actual identification is not known.

I did test one of these Magazines for fit and Slide Lock, which worked in the following 9mm Pistols:

Tanfoglio TA90B Series 88
TriStar T120
Tanfoglio/RIA MAP1 FS
Tanfoglio/RIA MAP1 MS
SAR B6P

This Magazine was also tested in an SAR K2P, but it did not allow the K2P's Slide to move when inserted.

I have not yet gotten to the Range for feeding/function tests, but that will hopefully happen soon.

I finally tested this ACT-MAG at the range with my Sarsilmaz Mega. Shot about 80 rounds with zero issues.
The interesting thing is that this magazine has stronger spring or/and different follower profile than Sarsilmaz factory magazine. (I need to check if it is also different from Mec-Gar magazine). I have a "range slide stop" from EAA Witness P which I tried to fit to Sarsilmaz as a spare part. I use it at the range (to save my original part), but it almost never lock the slide when the last round is shot. But with ACT-MAG it locked the slide every time. So, I think either spring strength or follower profile is different, but this is good!

I finally made it to the Range to test out these Magazines.  There is roadwork on the way to getting there, so access has been iffy.

Reliability Testing consisted of full Magazine (17 rounds) plus one in the Chamber to start, as sometimes the top round in a full Magazine can drag on the bottom of the Slide.
Testing went very well with no feeding issues in the Pistols listed below:

Tanfoglio TA90B Series 88
TriStar T120
Tanfoglio/RIA MAP1 FS
Tanfoglio/RIA MAP1 MS
SAR B6P

The RIA/Act-Mag Cz75 Magazines were also used in the above listed Pistols for some informal Target and Fun Shooting with no feeding issues.

Not tested was the SAR K2P, as the aforementioned Slide incompatibility issue could not be resolved and therefore, use with the SAR K2P is not recommended.
Instead , use the SAR K2P with the Mec-Gar Cz75B 17 round Magazines.

Also note that the 17 round Mec-Gar Magazine supplied with the TriStar T120 was tested with the other Pistols listed and performed flawlessly.
That TriStar/Mec-Gar Magazine also appeared to be a twin to the Mec-Gar Cz75B 17 round Magazine, right down to the Blue Follower.
