FedEx for the win. UPS has lost my business.
« on: August 12, 2019, 12:10:52 PM »
After years of never getting grief and doing business, the local UPS Store has taken the position that they will not ship unrestricted gun parts of any kind.  I was shipping my upper to get it milled.   For UPS to ship it, it must be handled by the main company only, not UPS Stores.  So, I'll schedule it for pick-up with FedEx and keep moving.  Truly aggravating!

Why would they know what's in the box?  Were they packing it?

Hate Fed Ex. Smartpost is the worst. Fed ex also seems to the one carrier that consistently arrives later than the estimated date on the shipping notice email.

UPS shipped a suppressor for me last summer out of one of those UPS stores (Rugged, for repairs).  But yeah, sometimes you have to get creative regarding what is in the box.

"machine parts" or "machined Parts" is what I usually put down or tell them.

"Machine parts" it is going forwards. I answered honestly, which is when they let me know of this restriction, which ONLY exists at the UPS Stores, not shipping from a UPS central office (an hour drive one-way).

I ran into this as well w/ UPS.  Went to FedEx instead.  Shrug, no skin off my back, don’t mind using FedEx.

is this a private business that is also a UPS store?

if its privately run, its their business.  If its a brick and mortar USP store, then that maybe different.

As long as it's just parts like a slide only, and not a receiver or anything with a trigger mechanism (which would be a Felony to ship without an FFL) I've been using USPS Priority to ship machined parts with tracking and adding the adequate insurance.

This is what CGW, CZ Custom and Primary have used to return my machined slides.  Usually costs <$15 with $400-500 insurance and they supply the free small box!

I keep a supply of the small free boxes on hand.  Easy-Peasy.

Was this just a Slide to have milled for an RMR or the like?

+1 on what Vinny said.  I use the Post Office.  A small flat rate box is only 8 bucks, and all they ask is whether you have any hazardous materials.

+2 Vinny using USPS Priority flat rates for parts.

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

Ran into the same issue a year or so ago. While one could put “machine parts” of some other designation, why support them at all when they have such an anti gun bias?

I have had issues with UPS mostly in the past. The mysteriously lost a case (1000 rounds) of 9mm coming from PSA last year. I had proof that it made it to the distribution center here in Houston. Went down there to find out what was going on. Lady went in the back for about 10 seconds and said it is not here. I asked here to please actually look for it and she handed me a paper to file a claim.

Luckily PSA was awesome and with no questions asked, shipped me another case the same day.

...just sent my PCR to Cajun via UPS, as has been mentioned they suggest saying the package contains "machine parts". Things may be different in other states but in GA I prefer the return is via UPS. FedEX requires the package be delivered to the home, you need to sit around until it arrives. CZ USA has shipped things to me this way, both times the delivery is listed as arriving "by end of day". I've had Ruger and Kimber send a repaired pistols UPS and I was able to pick the packages up at the hub, it was much easier.

I got the same "machine parts" advice and shipped from a local FedEx with no problem.
CZ Compact PCR
Sig Sauer P320
Ruger LCP
Others, etc.
