results of RIT dye on the urban grey p-07
« on: August 17, 2019, 01:23:05 AM »
so I wasn't a big fan of the urban grey color, but I found a deal on a p07 suppressor host I couldn't pass up, even if it was grey. So I thought I would try dying it black. I stripped the frame, boiled some water and tossed in about 1/3 a bottle of black RIT dye into 2/3 gallon water. let it sit for 40 minutes and rinsed. Frame turned a super dary navy or midnight blue. Not the black I was hoping for, but I kind of dig it. Certainly shows less dirt and fingerprints than that pale grayish color. Suppressors are messy. Who's stupid idea was it to make a nearly white gun?!?

this is the most natural lighting picture and is the best representation of the color.

it doesn't really look this blue in real life. The flash brought out the blue

Midnight Blue, really nice!
And it looks like it's penetrated the polymer enough to be permanent, not something that could wear off?

I once dyed an OD Glock frame with black RIT and it came our blueish too.  I re-dyed it with iDye Poly and it came out much blacker.  Still a very slight bluish tint.  RIT also makes DyeMore which is supposed to be better on synthetics.

I remember hearing that the FDE frames were a little more brittle compared to black.
I wonder if the same holds true for the Urban Grey?
I also wonder if there will be any detrimental effect to the polymer or it's longevity.

I'm thinking of picking up a suppressor ready Urban Grey P10C and putting a bottle of Pearl Grey Rit (as close as one can get to Magpul Stealth Grey) to good use.

Go for it. It was a fun project. Putting the gun back together is not for the faint of heart though. Say what you will about a glock, it sure is easy to strip and reassemble.

If I did it, I'd go with blue/grey like HK or add a tint of green.  I know someone here did a VERY cool cao job some time back.  VERY nice.

Just thought I'd pass this along. My brother who restores vintage motocross bikes, needed nylon lock nuts that were red to finish off the would bee factory look. The bike originally had red nylon lock nuts. He was reading some stuff on a restoration forum that would probably work. He took a couple packs of cherry Kool-Aid, add those to a half a pint of water mixed until all crystals were dissolved. Dropped in the white nylon lock nuts and let them sit for about 42 to 72 hours. It works like a charm.
I'm not saying that you would like a red gun but you get my drift, there are other colors.

i think it came out pretty good. Now I love the CZ urban gray color, but your new color does not look bad.

I wonder how light blue and silver would turn out?
Or even dark blue and silver
