What's going on with iWinchester?
« on: September 23, 2019, 02:07:15 PM »
Bought some Winchester 243 cases for the kids.  The flash holes are off center.  I haven't seen that in a while; I wonder if Winchester actually made these.

Winchester as an ammo manufacturer has been sucking for a while now IMO. They are running on reputation of the name and QC is almost non existent. I wont put it in my guns anymore.  My most recent problem was with their shotshells. Upon ejection the brass was pulled off the hull, leaving the hull in the chamber. Ive never seen it before and I kept the brass and hull. It was winchester super x 7.5 shot, just the walmart $22/100 box. If you cut shells, their lead and steel shot is abismal in quality, oblong and pitted pellets, some shaped like peanuts, the $8/box monarch from academy is much better and the federal speedshok is much nicer too.

As far as center fire rifle and pistol, scour the web and you'll find duds, undercharged or no powder charge, sometimes no primers, 2 bullets stuffed in cases, its unbelievable, and its frequent. Its also dangerous to the end user with such poor QC. Ive had a few duds in 9mm and decided to call it quits with them at that point and finished the box and havent bought any (slightly off center)fire from em since

Im sure someone will come along and say that Winchester is excellent and they've never had a problem blah blah blah, but Winchester is about the worst large ammo manufacturer in existence currently, which is astounding since allegedly they helped set up the Lithuanian GGG plant and they pump out some excellent ammo, maybe because winchester is no longer "helping" them?

I was wondering.  It's been a long time since I've seen flash holes this far off.

The only ammo I've bought recently with the "Winchester" name on the box has been the made in Sweden .223 62gr open tip. That is good stuff.

All of the Win .22 LR I've bought in the last 5-6 years was poor quality.

Except for their Olin division, Winchester is merely a marketing firm. They buy cheap stuff, re-brand it with their famous name, and sell it in the USA. Quality is, and will be, all over the map.

You'll see Winchester coats, watches, pocket knives.... whatever they think they can sell.
