75 BD sear cage install
« on: October 05, 2019, 03:39:24 AM »
I'm def doing something wrong. Sear cage is put together fine lifter spring works, decocker spring works, sear spring works. But I'm have a hell of a time putting the whole cage back in! I can't seem to get the pin through and push out the slave pin, it seems to hang on the sear itself. Tried it without springs and it worked fine, can someone point me in the right direction? can't find that nifty pdf on the sear installation. Thanks

I've done mine numerous times, yet this is the area I always seem to have problems with. All I could say you kinda have to push down and back, I don't really know what the trick is beyond that I just always seem to catch it at the right spot after a while. Good luck!

jokster945,

When you have issues like this, we always recommend checking each part on the stock sear pin to ensure they slide on and work freely.  Obviously you'll have to disassemble the cage for this.

Sometimes driving in the stock sear pin, you can "nick" the inside diameter of any of the parts.  Also we add just a tiny bit of extra radii to the OEM sear pin to allow it to navigate all those parts during the reinstall.

Neat tip, slightly adjusting the shape of the end of the sear pin had not occurred to me. I am going to need to try this next time a have a decocker apart.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I've determined my problem is not having an adequate punch set, so while guiding the pin it wasn't really doing anything (I resorted to an allen wrench and that was a dumb idea). Should have them tomorrow but I must say I am no longer afraid of rebuilding my sear cage, I'm only afraid of my wife when she finds out what I'm spending!

For me this was FAR harder than rebuilding the actual cage.

DONE...It was my roll pin not adequately lining up the sear hole. Pro tip: have all the necessary tool before you start.

Excellent, so how's the trigger pull and reset?  You had a wonderful bonding experience... :)

Both are great! SA pull is down to just a touch under 3 lb. polished things up while I was in there and really glad I did!

Glad to read the OP's cage installation worked out.   They are tricky.  Doing a hammer installation, I inadvertently let my CZ-75BD sear cage disassemble itself today -- and now I know what CGW means when they say about the L-Spring, "Often lost, seldom found."

I found the L-Spring again and reassembly is almost complete.  But using my SP-01 Tactical as a guide, I noticed that the L-Spring on that gun was not in the tiny notch it needs to be in to operate the lifter arm.  I had used the slave pin to do a hammer installation on that pistol last week... but, shame on me, I must have let the pin go in just a tad too far, letting the parts loosen up too much, and allowing the lifter spring to jump out of the tiny groove in the lifter (but happily, the spring remained captive on the actual pin).  I would never have noticed it, if I hadn't gone back this week to take a good look at the way the parts are assembled.

Something to check after using the sear cage slave pin.
