Vz 58 TGI Knox TN
« on: October 05, 2019, 07:13:01 PM »
I just picked up a VZ58 from a local shop I love it so far. Just have been looking through the web don't seem to find many that look like mine. I'm thing the buttstock has been customized being a foldable with the real wood. But the muzzle looks factory but I have not seen one like it. I know that it is clean not much use just hoping that it's not a clone or something. Would love some help with your guys knowledge on these awesome rifles  https://i.imgur.com/cwwGErF.jpg https://i.imgur.com/WbyYWmq.jpg

Someone took a factory folding stock, and mated it to the wood stock, flipped the hinge to make it a left side folder

That muzzle device looks like one of the type 84s I sold for a while.
They were for a time, the only vz58 threaded muzzle device you could get in the states, They are still my favorite, and I use them on virtually every vz58 I build.

Thank you guys. So you guys think it's a good real vz58 then. I really like the customized buttstock I know some may not but I love the real wood look. I think with it comming in through TGI it's probably an older model. I do like the muzzle aswell it makes it look a lilt custom. Can't wait to get rounds through it

No one can do anything as far as dating the gun, your pictures dont show any markings, a good start is whether or not the gun says C.S.A or D-Technik on it, if it is a real czech gun one of those will be on it somewhere. However, regardless of when the gun was assembled, the parts in it are likely much older than the reciever (at a minimum) is. No VZ-58 is 100% new production parts although the new CSA guns are close to it. All VZ-58 and knockoffs are built from old surplus demilled kits and all the D-techniks are rebuilt from military rifles onto semi auto recievers with everything else being original

I figured it probably was, D-techniks are as close to the real thing as has ever been imported once theyre opened up for double stack mags.  The new CSA guns have much better barrels IMO.  CSA uses Lothar Walther barrels which have a very good reputation in europe and seem to gather a reputation as being a little tougher and longer lasting than others based off what Ive found of them.

The D-techs seem to have a bit better finish on them. My CSA gun was getting chipped paint almost immediately while my D tech is still lookin good after some run n gun and normal wear n tear

The rear stock is bubba-ed and sits really low.  There are Czech made hinges that work w/ the factory fixed stock, but they're pricey.

TGI was one of 4 or 5 early VZ58 importers, prior to Czechpoint having a monopoly.  TGI and Waffen Works both imported for Czechpoint -- I think in that order historically -- prior to Czechpoint getting their own importer license.

You'll also see very few CZ-USA marked VZ58s and probably fewer early GIA (Gilbert International Arms) imports as well.

I'm sure others can chime in.

Make sure your muzzle device is permanently affixed, else it's an SBR as it should have an original Czech surplus 15.5" barrel.

Read through the forum.  There's A LOT of info in the archives here.
