Help, what am I missing or misunderstanding
« on: October 14, 2019, 08:36:48 PM »
Was having a discussion with someone who is buying their first CZ, a P-01. Is the P a designator for polymer? We were talking bout grips and apparently the p-01 is alu framed and comes with black rubber grips. I mistakenly said that it was polymer and comes with backstraps only. Where does the sp-01 fit in the scheme?

P for Pistol?

Both my P-01 and SP-01 Tactical are steel.
But I know lots of P-01s are aluminum.

My P-07 is Polymer.

I do not know the frame makeup of all the various designations.... but I am tuning in to learn because I have faith that somebody will provide that info to us!

"P" doesn't have a specific designation that I am aware of other than part of the model designation.......though it does not stand for polymer, that I do know  ;)

SP-01 is a fullsize steel frame model.......similar in everyway functionally to the P-01, though the typical decocker style P-01 is a compact w/shorter barrel & slide as well as a shorter grip w/alloy frame

Hope this helps  :)

These are some of what i call CZ 75 Variants. This is due to using the same internal trigger system. This is generally the same trigger system that was used in the orignal CZ75.

CZ P-01: Alloy frame, Steel slide, Compact, Decocker, Classic trigger system.
CZ SP-01: Steel frame, Steel slide, Full size, Safety model, Classic trigger system..

CZ P Series

CZ P-07: Poly frame, Steel Slide, Compact, Convertible Decocker/Safety model, Omega Trigger System.
CZ P-09: Poly frame, Steel Slide, Full size, Convertible Decocker/Safety model, Omega Trigger System.

Then you have the new P-10 models. These are poly framed striker fired pistols. Kinda like a Glock.

They all have "P" in the names. CZ naming can be confusing. There are also some exceptions to what i have posted, CZ is know to do special models for certain contracts.

I own 5 CZ. 2 polymer; 2 metal framed; and an EVO. I always thought the P designated polymer; as it made sense.

P = pistole.

It's Czech, nothing to do with polymer.

Yes, Policie Ceské republiky. However they adopted what’s known in the US market as the P-01 with the rail and the non-railed version was sent to the US market as the PCR. Typical Czech fashion [emoji3]

CZ Makes stuff like that to confuse people that attempt to categorize their products. They are laughing all the way from the Czech Republic.

"SP-01 Compact" would have been a more reasonable name for the pistol of which you speak.

So it’s the same as a Compact but just doesn’t say Compact?

I do not understand the question.

Edit: That took me a minute. Yes, the Steel frame, Safety model that is labeled P-01 is a compact size CZ pistol. Much like the CZ75 Compact, Original alloy frame P-01 and CZ PCR.

There was a steel framed Compact with a decocker. Sold one at the gun shop I worked at. CZ-USA has no idea what I was talking about. Sometimes they have weird runs. The 85 Compact was one, I think a run of something like 80 pistols.

All of the steel frame Compact D pistols I have seen were surplus (probably Israel since they have the Mainspring Plug Retaining Pin with a lanyard loop and a left side grip melted to clear the ring).

CZ-USA never cataloged/imported them, so they won't have the information. Similar to asking Beretta USA about the "92s" pistols.
