A new shooting buddy at our expensive private club might possibly consider trading his Century VZ for my SAR-1. Won't know until we meet again to shoot...……..

Looking forward while shouldering the gun, it is part of the lower handguard, angled about 35-45 degrees to the Left of Downwards Vertical. Is this a confusing description?
The purpose is rather similar to my SAR-1's "donkey dong", except for it is round, textured hard (black) rubber/plastic etc and an integral part of his VZ's lower handguard. And strangely (to me) ??? angled to the left.

I've never owned a VZ, but his initial attraction to my SAR-1's looks has him possibly considering a trade.

What might be the approx. value of his angled Aftermarket Component, just in case he sees it as a necessary part of a possible deal?

No idea what the handgaurd itself is worth but its just a plastic handgaurd, sounds like something FAB defense or Zahal would be selling.  its a century VZ 2008 it needs to come with some goods to sweeten the deal for a Sar 1 IMO. Maybe if they were Bonesteel handgaurds itd be a different story.

Thanks for the reply.
I was confused by the Gunbroker Completed Auction prices for VZ2008s, which begin at approx. $750 and go far higher, but so various accessories make a fair guess about average Market value obscure.

At least evaluations to acquire my four German-proofed P series Sigs and the CZ'PCR' (waiting Now on Walther P99 AS to ship) were very simple.

You can pick up a real deal CSA VZ 58 for $1200 brand new, used prices fluctuate and theyve been had for $800, thats a pretty smokin deal. The VZ 2008 that go for stupid high prices like more than $600 are bought by people trying to convince themselves that a century gun is just as good as CSA gun and cost less (they're wrong for a number of reasons). Personally Id look for a real VZ 58 but if youve got some experience behind your buddies 2008 and its not a total turd and the price isnt ridiculous then go for it

If this was a WASR10, you're probably good at an even trade given similar conditions of firearms.

The SAR1s are a rarer variant (and eventually banned from import) and should conceptually command a premium since they have the mag well receiver dimples like milspec.

Long story short on WASR-10s: current new seem to command an ~$100 premium to vz2008s.   ~2015-2017 they ran about the same price until Century really amped up their US-built AKs then price of WASRs skyrocket from ~$450-500 to ~$700.  And prior to that was the Sandy Hook price explosion, but prior to Sandy Hook WASRs could be snagged regularly for sub-$450 new and sub-$400 for used.
So through a lot of that time, WASRs and Vz2008s were similarly priced, but nowadays, Vz2008s are priced similarly to US-built kit AKs, rather than now more expensive foreign-built imports.

And no idea what's going on w/ the grip on front handguard.  You'd have to post some photos.

RSR: that’s an excellent summary. Thanks very much. I’m recently retired (64) and read AKfiles almost every day.

To clarify: this new buddy’s VZ 2008 operates quite well, and I made the first comment about a possible trade. I read a few years ago about the first Century 2008s, which had the wrong bolt/hammer (etc) reset “tab”.  Not at all the situation, here. The idea for a possible trade was mine-not his.

Sorry but I don't know how to post photos, despite having operated VNAV/LNAV/FMCs for several years.
My wife usually knows how (E-Bay etc), and even she had a real struggle uploading my Enfield #5 photos into the ad on Armslist TN several days ago.

If equivalent mags, accessories, etc, and condition of guns and wanting to sell, I'd offer a trade + cash of $250-350 or so premium.  (+$150 to 250 above the current WASR10 and VZ2008 delta).  If your gun is in very good to excellent condition, you could probably find some Romanian AK collector who'd give you $1k to $1,250 or so for it, just due to rarity and condition.

Heck, my Romy AES10B RPK that I picked up for $700 or so in the 2013-2015 time-frame (don't recall exact year offhand) now runs up to $1,500 w/ the latest imports that Century restarted this year after they haven't been imported for 5 years or so!

And if you want to PM me your email.  I'll reply w/ mine, and I'm happy to post photos of handguard grip -- quite curious myself as I haven't heard of anything like that for the Vz58.

Never mind:
No Trade, it seems.  :-[ Sorry this prompted you folks to send so much info, but it's been both extremely informative and educational.

The guy never even remembered my offer for his 2008.....

I watched him run a tactical course today several times and his VZ2008 has had such a perfect operation over 1,000 rds.
He tried my Maadi AK , never asked about the SAR-1, and never commented.

Really Looking Forward to mailing my USPS money order Monday, so that my Czechpoint 58 (in the box) might ship several days from now.
