S&W 627 PC Grips
« on: November 06, 2019, 07:14:49 PM »
Just want to show you folks some of my grips. I'm a wooden shipwright so wood is kinda my thing and when I ran across this guy on Fleabay with this Koa I knew instantly that I wanted some, and what I was gonna do with it. This is without question the highest quality Koa I've seen in decades. I'm thankful to have gotten the small amount I did but the guy has dropped off the face of the planet and I cant get any more it seems.

I'm definitely no photographer but I hope you get the idea.

I've made three sets of pistol grips, left handed Thumb rest grips for a S&W 41, left handed thumb rest grips for a second series Colt Match Target and a set of finger groove grips for a S&W 63 revolver. All out of Calicos Walnut pistol grip blanks. I mean this as a sincere complement when I say yours look factory. It's easier said than done. May I ask what a wooden bodybuilder is?

David, I hate this phone and its bleep spellcheck. Yes, wooden BOATBUILDERS are rare but I've typed it a few times and no matter how many times I go back and select BOATBUILDER it always inserts bodybuilder if I dont change it. bleep funny though. So, I'm a wooden boatbuilder or more technically correct a wooden shipwright.  Maybe I should just type that instead.
Thank you for the compliment.

Another good point David. Not posting some pics of them before they were done people might think I'm pulling their leg about making them so...

Look and you'll see it's the same pieces of wood. Oh, I also made the holster. I've since finished the belt that matches. Both are trimmed out with the same sharkskin.

I didn't mean to imply that your grips had been purchased. Just that to achieve the appearance of being manufactured takes an eye for detail and proportion. It's easy to go astray and end up looking weird. Wooden boat work has to help there. I thought a wooden bodybuilder was someone who made the wooden body shaping bucks for vintage car restoration. Not as far off as I would have originally guessed.

I know you weren't saying I had bought them, I just wanted to actually show  that I did make them. I took no offense at all.

the spielchick probably won't understand shipwright either. You'll get a bonanza when it changes you to a member of the Cartwright family.
