.44 AutoMag
« on: November 07, 2019, 03:52:15 PM »
I'd wanted one of these puppies for a few decades now and one fell into my lap a few months back. I do handload so once I got some .44 AMP brass and the dies, it's been easy to keep her fueled up:

Note - this is the Automag, not the Wildey which is a totally different pistol.

Grips are nice too.
It's not saving any water if you have to flush it over and over....

A huge unique monster of a handgun I bought two cased sets with both .357 and .44 uppers when a local gunsmith closed his doors back in the late 70's for $1,000  Back in those days factory ammo was hard to find so we made our brass from cut down 30.06 cases and handloaded.  I broke down and sold one of the sets to a guy I met at a gun show a few years ago when he made a crazy offer that I couldn't pass up. I still have one set that is unfired that I'll pass on to my son when I leave this world.

^ Excellent!

I've been fortunate in that Starline makes brass in this caliber - but I recently bought an RCBS case-forming kit and have a lot of .308 (and some .270) brass I'll be experimenting with soon.

Just for grins, here she is wearing her fancy shoes:

Beautiful. I handled one at a Tucson gun shop years ago...the grips are too big for my medium sized hands, but a very impressive sidearm. My first exposure to Big Thunder was, of course, Mack Bolan...

I picked up the new Founders' Edition from the new Auto Mag company 11 months ago:

Superbly accurate and the longer 8.5" barrel tames the recoil by about 20%. 7 rounds to check the magazine's reliability (a notorious issue in the older guns):
