Chamber reaming W/Manson throater

I have been loading 47’s for a long time now but since I got my P09 they are way shorter then my other CZ’s.

I decided it was time to team the throats with the Manson reamer to load longer.

My question is what is the correct procedure to determine how much to cut?

I thought about loading a 147 round at 1.145, teaming barrels until it drops flush and then backing off to 1.135.

Barrels will be a P01, shadow, P09

I also load the same for a M&P9, shield, scorpion but I haven’t really tested their longest OAL yet.

I am reading the P09 barrels are very hard to cut so I will save that one for last or send it off to get done. Do not want to dull my tool after the first use.

Both my SP-01 and P-10F had properly cut chambers, but short cut leades.  147gr blue bullets loaded longer than 1.132" wouldn't pass the plunk test.  Longer rounds would get stuck on the rifling and lock up the gun.  I deepened the lead with a Clymer .35 throating reamer.  I secured the barrel vertically in a vise, cleaned out the chamber/bore, and lubed up the chamber and reamer with Rapid-Tap.  I slid the reamer straight in until it touched the rifling, then began slowly turning with zero downward pressure.  I could feel the blades sort of  "step" between the rifling grooves, so I'd pull the reamer straight out every 2-3 "steps", clean everything, plunk test with a round loaded to 1.140", then repeat.  In total it took less than 2 full turns.  The nitrided barrels are murder on HSS.  Mine were pretty dinged up after doing my P-10F.

You're better off sending the P-09 barrel out.

Yea I figured about the P09 barrel would mess the tool up.

So I guess sending it off is the answer to that.

Update us if you can find a place that'll do it.  A bunch of places no longer offer chamber reaming on CZs, probably because they'd have to charge for new tooling every few barrels.  Here's my Clymer 9mm throating reamer after doing just my SP-01 and P-10F.

Wow so people have stopped doing the P series guns?

This isn’t looking like it’s gonna turn out well.


There won’t be a point for me to throat the other guns to accept longer Bullets if I can’t get my P09 to shoot them.

The P09 has the shortest throat of them all and it gets jammed up on my loads that run in everything else.

Need to find a carbide reamer, it will be $$$$ but would last a long time.

I use a known longer ogive cartridge without a primer or powder to check.

I toss the barrel in a plastic barrel vise and use my Manson reamer. I go until my long ogive round plunk tests fine. Then I go a few more turns.

I learned the hard way that some barrels are not able to be cut with the Manson reamer. I had to buy a new one.

This was for my Shadow 2.

There is a guy who reams CZ barrels in CA.
Bevin Grams. I found him on the Brian Enos forums. I had a few barrels done by him.

I don't know where to get a carbide throater.
If you need to ream the barrel then be aware of the melonited barrels. I know that the Shadow 2 is melonited (I ruined my Manson reamer on it).
I'm not sure if any of the other barrels are melonited. Some probably are.

If you do find a carbide throating reamer please post up where you got it.
