Some P01 Omega Questions
« on: December 01, 2019, 05:01:20 PM »
Sort of a CZ guy as some know here.  MANY years ago, owned a P01 and was very excited about it.  Was very accurate, but alas, because of the grittiness of the trigger and difficult detail stripping, I ditched it and got a compact.  Fast forward I am interested again, and because of the current state of affairs, and I have mags and grips for it, am considering a P01 Omega.  Some questions:

- How thick is the frame and grip as compared to say the Tristar C100?  (I have the C100 and it is a pretty slim gun).
- How does it shoot (recoil impulse and follow up) as compared to say, the P07, which I find very good.
- Are the sights generally confined to CZ Custom and Dawson?  Downside.
- Are they a tad more easy to smooth the action than the P07,being an aluminum frame which may be slicker against the trigger components?

Thanks.

My P01 Omega does feel softer than my P07. Not a huge difference. My follow ups are equal with both though.
- Are the sights generally confined to CZ Custom and Dawson?  Downside. I think many go with the TFX Pro sights as well
- Are they a tad more easy to smooth the action than the P07,being an aluminum frame which may be slicker against the trigger components? From my experience with my P01 Omega and P07, I got a smoother trigger with the P01 from the same work and CGW parts I installed.

Thanks.

I can commnet on all but your first question.

My PO1 is one of the softest shooters I have ever shot, bar none. I don’t understand why but it’s a fact. I shot mine alternating against my Glocks and there is no comparison. PO1 wins hands down.

Stock sights are horrible, especially for aging eyes. I put Dawson’s on mine, which are better in the daylight but still suck in dimmer conditions, even at an indoor range.

I used CGW parts in mine. Trigger is MUCH better now but it took lots of time and polishing.

Sorry can’t compare to Tristar or 07.

I have a P01 Omega and a PCR. While both have been cajunized, I found their out of the box ergonomics to be superb. I do prefer the trigger design and sights on the Omega over the PCR.

While I have a P09, I don't have any of the other guns you mention. My P09 does shoot softly- almost no muzzle rise at all- but its a much longer slide and barrel and a longer grip. That said, I don’t recall any significant recoil/ muzzle rise from the P01/PCR in my IDPA matches. What round / bullet you shoot will also have a say in the recoil question too. I usually shoot 147 or 124 grain FMJs (Speer lawman) in those matches.

Regardless- I firmly believe the P01 Omega is a great gun with the best compromise of ergonomics, capacity, conceallability, and shootability.

Good luck

P-01 Omega with LOK Standard grip is 1.24" thick.
The thickest spot is on decocker lever - 1.48"
Frame is 1.10"

Shoots amazingly nice. Omega trigger makes the trick. Trigger bar and inside frame polishing recommended.
I cannot compare to P-07, but P-01 Omega shoots (in SA)  the same as Walter PPQ (I've been using this one for a long time) . I like P-01 Omega better than "polymer" gun

Nope. You can buy it also from CZ-USA (factory ones), Meprolight or Truglo
 check also here: https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=97190.0
Factory fluorescent sights suck. Check what works best for you. I use Meprolite front with factory rear (blackened rear dots)

I would say YES. Aluminium is no nice to polish. I see better results working on alu / steel than on polymer.

Happy CZ P-1 Omega user

Thanks folks for the input.

Again, thinking of adding one last CZ to the mix and the P01 Omega may be it.  The UG is more readily available, and I don't mind the SR sights - they seem to work pretty well on my P07.

What holsters do you use, and how is the frame wear with the holster?

I use OWB, paddle (3 o'clock) Fobus plastic holster.
No wear on the gun (however I've polished inside of the holster before used it).

I use a Leather OWB holster from Privateer letter - used it for a full IDPA season.  For me no wear.

Thanks again for the response.

Just saw a video where "Big Johnson" says the recoil of the P07 is less.

I felt my P-07 was softer shooting than my P-01. That is probably due to the slide being heavier on the 07 and moving a little slower. Softer shooting may not be exactly the right term, more so it was easier to track the sights and watch it come back into battery. It's been awhile since I weighed them, but the 01 was just slightly lighter overall than the 07. My 01 wasn't an omega, but I'm pretty sure slide weight etc. is comparable.

Sorry to bring up the video.  I think it is blocked and it’s a guy with a problem.  Anyone Carrie the urban gray model?
