It’s time... Advise Me on P-01
« on: December 14, 2019, 06:42:32 PM »
Hey guys

I’ve been on the fence for a long while but decided it’s time.
It’s time to buy a P-01. I’ve wanted a CZ for a long time and decided it’s time to hop on board.

What’s the best one to get?

P-01
P-01 Omega
P-01 Urban Grey Suppressor Ready Omega

I’m pretty sure I understand all the basic differences but if there’s any info that’s not commonly known from actual users, please let me know here. I’ll be ordering as soon as I gather this info.

1.) Do many end up using the omega system for what its intended (safety / decocker swap)?
2.) Are there any other uses for the Omega system ?
3.) Between the P-01 variations, does one of them have a better trigger?

The P-01 is a terrific gun, as are all the CZs. Get off the fence and get one. What are you waiting for?

To me the P-01's appeal is largely rooted in its alloy frame. A little lighter while sacrificing nothing.

Omega system? Personally I want absolutely nothing to do with safeties. No one is going to convince me otherwise, and I won't attempt to convince others if they're of the opposite mindset. So get the one you want, because it's unlikely you're going to switch back and forth yourself.

Of course if you plan to occasionally lend the gun to someone whose preference is different than yours, that's another matter.

Urban Grey? To each his own (again) but one thing I did not consider was how easily grey can begin to look dirty. Of course black gets just as dirty, you just don't see it. Grey is certainly a nice color though.

Trigger? Don't really how they compare to one another, but if you want a significant trigger improvement you're going to want to send it to CGW anyway (or buy one from them).

To wrap it all up I'd lean in favor of your first choice. Find a good price and grab one. Think about factory night sights if you can find one already so equipped. Having more $ than brains I wound up sending mine to CZ for a retrofit. They did a great job.

Oh I forgot to mention the suppressor option (thank Eastman for reminding me). Aftermarket threaded barrels are hard to come by.

Do you plan on switching the parts or will it stay de-cocker? If you don't plan to convert, then a lot of the Omega feature isn't value added.

Do you need the threaded barrel of the Omega SR?

The reality is to just buy whichever version you find first.

My choice was easy. I'm lefty and wanted safety.
However I switched safety to decocker after few weeks (I found it a better option for consealed carry). So both tested  :)
I love Omega action in P-01. Shoots nice and smooth. I don't care about crisp hammer, so cannot tell anything about it.
Omega has very easy setup so it is also very easy to maintain. You can take the pistol apart in few minutes. (No problem with sear cage).
You will need to put few parts from CGW to make Omega better...(DA pull is heavy from factory).

I have a P01 Omega, as well as a PCR- very similar to a standard P01 trigger and decocker wise. I bought the Omega first and prefer the trigger shape and sights. While both have been cajunized, the Omega is my preferred compact CZ- but just slightly.

Some will say the Omega trigger is better out of the box, and the standard lock work can be better refined than the Omega lock work.

Of the Omega and standard P01, I don’t think you can go wrong- key will be how well working the decocker and trigger feels IN YOUR HANDS.

Good luck

The P-01 is a great pistol. Mine is very accurate. If I can find one fault, it would be the beaver tail that's not as long as my SP-01.

With the SP-01 I can grip very high with no issues of hammer bite. With the P-01 and using the same grip, some of the skin between my thumb and forefinger tends to overlap the back of the beavertail. With an altered grip I'm fine, but do not like changing back and forth.

This is all relative to your hand size and how you grip, but it may be worth shooting one first.

I have the first two on your list...both are great! I slightly prefer the trigger shape on the Omega. Otherwise, either/both have my vote! I have my Omega set up with the decocker and have no intention of using the safety. I'd say the Omega has the better trigger out of the box, but after more than 1000 rounds through each, there isn't much/any difference. P-01s are excellent handguns; get one!

P01 with the decocker - no experience with those, I'm a cocked and locked kind of guy, comes from years of carrying/shooting 1911.

P01 Omega Urban Gray - ambidextrous decockers or safeties.  Threaded barrel if you think you might someday want a suppressor, longer barrel so a bit of extra velocity either way, tall/suppressor height sights with tritium inserts so you have true night sights.  The aluminum frame makes no difference to me, I don't notice it - unless it's empty/field stripped and then it occurs to me how light frame is.  Those grooves down the front and back of the grip frame do make a difference for me.  I have some CZ75 Compacts and they just don't feel as good in my hand as that grooved P01 frame.

P01 Omega Black - everything the Urban Gray model is except the longer threaded barrel and the tall/suppressor night sights.

I bought the UG P01 first.  I liked it well enough to buy the black Omega P01 and I carried it a whole lot more than I ever carried the UG version.  I didn't stop carrying the P01 due to any issues with it other than summer time carry was getting it nasty, sweaty, dirty, dusty, crudded up, etc. almost every day.  I'd pull it out of the holster and either sweat (hot day) or water (rainy day) would be beaded up on it and the leather side of the holster soaked through.  I switch to a plastic/stainless carry gun (tried, can't find one that'll shoot with the CZ's though) and I've been through a few looking for one that really replaces that P01 Omega.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Thanks so much for the info guys. I appreciate it.

@m1A4me ... why did you carry the black omega more than the urban grey?

Agreed. I "might" shoot my Sig P229/.357 better, but that is debatable. I have only added the SRS1 from Cajun to my P01 to this point, along with some polishing of internals, but it is a great shooter.

The urban gray P01 had the night sights and a Olight PL Mini on it.  It is a house gun.  I keep it where I can reach it quickly if anyone knocks on the door/rings the doorbell after dark - or if I don't know them but I have to go to the door.  Or if I run out to the mail box.  If it's always there, it's always there when I want it.  If I carry it then it would be pretty dirty at times and might be field stripped on a towel on the table waiting to dry off completely before getting wiped off and lubed again.

My carry pistols may get field stripped, wiped down and lubed 4 or 5 times between getting shot at the range.  I've come in from weed eating, making shelves (other wood projects), running the wood chipper, high pressure washing lawn furniture/the deck, etc. and the carry pistol is so dirty it's unreal.  If I lived up home still I'd go out back and empty the magazine into a target just to see if it really would work.

Same for the most accurate CZ I own, the 9MM P09.  It is a house gun.  I don't even remember the last time I shot it.  But I know where it is and it's clean, lubed, loaded and ready to go.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I waited like you on getting a P01. it was really one of the last CZ handguns I added to me collection. My P07 serves asa carry weapon, so I knew I would not be carrying the P01. My favorite non-black color of any handgun is CZ's urban gray and I like the shape of the Omega trigger more than the standard. So, I went with the P01 UG/SR. Plus I am getting into supressors soon. The Omega system is easy to work on if that matters to you. I did some spring changes only and my P01 trigger is outstanding!

I would take a regular P01 as well to be honest. Most likely would send it off to CGW though. The CGW RRK really helps with trigger reach for me. I have actually been considering getting another P01 for carry to replace my P07, but my P07 just works so good for me.

Could someone please comment on the different feel between the DA and SA trigger in the P01 and P01 Omega?  (Not the shape which I get, but the feel smoothness, stacking, etc. between the two).

Also, how about finish wear between the black and UG?

Thanks.

I am pretty sure that both the black and UG P01 have CZ's polycoat. You are going to get the same wear on both I would say. I will let someone else comment on the DA/SA feel.
