Po7 Guide Rod Protruding
« on: January 08, 2020, 07:25:43 PM »
This is something that I read in various forums every now and then.
It even happened to me once or twice in 10 years.

You assemble the gun, and notice the guide rod protruding from the muzzle end.
You break it back down and re-assemble.  No problem.
You never figure out why it happened, and it never happens again.

I bought two P-07s in my pre Christmas indulgences.
Stock for carry, and supressor ready with RMR for nightstand.
Both have captured spring and guide rod.
The stock one is new, and has an allen screw (the one that I read keeps coming loose).
The Urban Grey with RMR has a solid end with no screw.
It happened on both of them.

It's not a big deal, easy to correct.

It does feel like there isn't a positive ledge to set the guide rod on.
It kinda feels like it might slip off.
But once the gun is assembled, it holds positively.

Is this a CZ thing?  Or was it the Christmas guide rod Gremlins?

I just took both down to be sure of the guide rods.  It happened on both.
This time, I was watching.  I felt a slight bump as the slide was going on, then the guide rod protruded.
I think the front insert is bumping the rod loose from the barrel.
I didn't insert the slide stop.  Just backed up , reset the guide rod, and put slide back on.
That was easy enough.

Is it happening to others?  Or am I getting "fumble fingered" in my old age?   ;D ;D ;D

It’s been a while since I’ve had my P07 out of the safe but I don’t recall the guide protruding after assembling it.

Squeeze the spring and guide rod against the barrel while sliding it onto the frame. Since the spot on the barrel the guide rod rides against is a curved slope, it can push down and hang up durring assembly.

Never had this problem with either of my P-07's and the three different guide rod types I've used in them.  When reading about it previously, I thought it was usually a case of a screw backing out, and thread locker was the proposed solution.  That can't be happening with a solid guide rod, of course.

In your case, it sounds like you may not be getting the back of the guide rod into the exact right position?  The P-07's barrel doesn't have the little semi-circle indentation there to fit it into, like some pistols have, so I just try to center mine horizontally and make sure it looks parallel to the barrel vertically.

It's not limited to CZ's.

I've managed to do it on the M&P .45 a couple days ago and thought I wasn't going to get the slide back off again.  It was hung up for a bit till a few smacks of the hand popped something loose.

I did it once on the FNS, too.  No idea what it's hanging on, but the part that normally sits against the lug on the bottom of the barrel isn't line up quite right and when you try to put the slide on the frame it catches as you move the slide to the rear.  Unfortunately, you're usually concentrating on slide to frame alignment so you're not looking at the front of the slide to see the front of the guide rod pop out to alert you to an issue.

Seems like I did have that happen on the P07 a time, or two, several years back.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

From now on, as soon as I get the slide lined up, I'll shift my attention to the front of the slide.
That will let me correct it right away.

Something else I should consider.
As the arthritis in my hands has progressed, I have more issues with thumb to forefinger dexterity.
I also seem to have more issues dropping small parts or pills.

I do want to be very clear.
When I first shot the 75B and P-07 together, it was the P-07 that really impressed me.
The used one with threaded barrel and RMR impressed me just as much.
These two pistols perform way above their price point.

I need to set up a Glock 19 vs CZ P-07 range session.
I think I already know which will win.

I haven't had that happen to my P-07, but today my Ruger P95 did it. The recoil spring/guide rod assembly is unique and convoluted on that gun, and has to be set against the barrel just right. I have the retained spring and a steel rod with loose springs for the P-07. Both, as mentioned above, have to be centered on the barrel for easy re-assembly. It is easy to get them off a little bit and have the effect you did. My slide assembly just won't go home if I messed up the alignment, but I haven't had the rod stick out. Yet.
