Currently, my defensive loads depend upon Remingtons Gold Sabre line.  9mm 124 grn +P's and .45 185 grn +P's

When I feel that lower penetration/overpenetration may be of concern, I switch to Winchester Silvertips.  9mm 115 grn and .45 185 grn

In Winter, heavy clothing penetration can be an issue, where I live.  In the hot summer, the added penetration is not needed.

I currently carry a G19 loaded with Federal 135+P Tactical and when I carried my CZ85 I liked the 124+P Gold Dot.

I alternate between, Winchester 115gr +p+, Winchester 127gr+p+ and, most recently, Winchester 124gr Partition Gold, all in 9mm caliber.  I am getting 1400fps from the 115gr+p+, 1300fps from the 127gr+p+ and 1200fps from the Partition Gold, out of my pre-B CZ75s.

I've been carrying Federal 115 +p+ in my CZ-75BD (primary carry), and Federal Hydra-Shok 124 in my Ruger KP95 (Carry when my knee acts up, it's lighter). I've been considering switching to Speer Golddot 124 +p but I have too much of the federal around, and that's after shooting off six boxes last week!

124gr +P Speer Gold Dot for 9mm CZs.

            6.0gr Alliant Unique
            230gr 3-D LRN
            Federal case
            Federal LP primer

This is the handload that I carry in the 97B when I'm out in the woods.

I still have a few boxes of Federal 124grs Nyclad hollow points and they shoot to point of aim in my 75 compact.  Function is 100% with no FTF or FTE's.  When I run out of them I will have to experiment with some of the newer personal protection loads.
I always use factory loads for my CCW use's as I do not want any extra legal issues in the case that I do have shoooting.

jcmios,

Don't take this personally, but what "extra legal issues" would you expect with handloads?  Do you have some legal cite where the use of handloads became an issue in a court case?  I'm curious, because the one attorney that I'm personally aware of that did a search for such a case came back empty handed.

Mike as a retired police officer we were told to never use reloads of any kind with our off duty weapons as it is a potential legal mess.  I have also read many articles stating the same thing, it can be used against you and is best just not to use them for carry.
I know many people do use hand loads for this but I use hand loads extensively for practice but not for carry. IMHO.

Jim,

I've "heard" the same.  Many time over to tell you the truth.  However, the legal research on this subject that I have seen first hand suggests this is more urban legend, than anything else.

I am not advocating that anyone not carry factory loads.  If that's what they are more comfortable with, then by all means: use factory ammunition.  Nor am I advocating that anyone carry reloads.  I happen to train exclusively with my  reloads, therefore, when CCW becomes legal here in OH, I will probably use my reloads.

In my CCW course here in Minnesota someone brought up the subject of reloads versus factory ammo. The instructor's response was that there hasn't been a court case in Minnesota where the decision was affected by what ammo was used. Either the shoot was justified or it wasn't, and it mattered not a whit whether the shooting was with bb's or bazookas.

Yes, apparently a casual familiarity with jurisrudence does not translate into competency with EZCodes...  :eek
