what should I look out for?
« on: January 26, 2020, 08:27:53 AM »
good morning all. This is my first post on this forum. I had a CZ compact with a .22 conversion kit a number of years ago but sold it to help finance a Dan Wesson guardian. I love the guardian but have sellers remorse with regard to the CZ. I am now looking to rectify that. The rami has always had my interest and I have read here about recoil springs wearing out pretty quickly and mag springs needing to be changed out. Are there other issues that need attention?

Are you convinced to RAMI only? No other option for you?
I'm asking because in certain situations you can go with P-01 and there is no issues that need attention.

They've had feed issues in the past, like many short barrel subcompacts. Mine has been very reliable and feeds Federal HST 124's without fail.

Jurek: Are you convinced to RAMI only? No other option for you?
I guess there are many options both in the CZ family and others. I just have always liked the look and size of the Rami.

Earl: They've had feed issues in the past
Are these problems still prevalent in recent models? Would a slightly stronger recoil spring fix the problem?

My point was that once you are thinking about extended mags for RAMI, P-01 become better option. The same size, but less issues.

I guess there are no ideal, all purpose hand guns. You could find plusses and minuses with just about any firearm, but once you start choosing your gun with an immediate idea of major improvements (i.e.dimensions via magazine capacity) you might as well look elsewhere. I have gone through that complete cycle starting with a nice, concealable EDC pistol ending several hundreds of dollars later with a safe queen.

I don't think the feed issue is prevalent at all, but it does come up here from time to time. I think a lot of the reputation for feed issues came from the .40 ramis which are no longer being produced. Recoil spring life is a legitimate concern. I use one for practice, one for carry, and keep a backup in spare parts box. I came into my Rami via a trade, and planned to shoot it and sell it. I took it to the range and found it to be accurate and very pleasant to shoot for its size. That was months ago, and I still have it. In fact, I carry it every day. I drive all day for work and find the short slide makes for comfortable EDC(TT Gunleather pancake). I'm planning to have it milled for an RMR, but I don't want to give it up long enough to send it out and wait for a custom holster.
I started out with a P-01 and it printed considerably more. The Rami with the 10rd mag is a nice option to have. I carry a 14rd mag as a backup. If I'm going to be in a bad area or situation I have other higher capacity guns to carry.
I discounted the Rami for a long time, thinking I might as well carry the P-01, but the Rami is more different than I expected.

I agree with Earl. I'm on my 2nd Rami, foolishly traded first one  off for a PX4 Compact.  I had no feed issues with either one, but I scrub clean the mags with an old toothbrush and Hoppes #9 before using them.  Only 2 things I dislike about the Rami out of the box-the very small sights and that very curved trigger.  I solved those with some XS big dot sights and an old style trigger bought from CGW.  I will not part with this 2nd Rami.

mecenas:  immediate idea of major improvements
I couldn't agree more. I want something that runs reliably out of the box but also like the idea of knowing what to do if there's a hiccup.

Earl:  I drive all day for work
my edc right now is a 5 shot revolver worn IWB at 3:30. My plan for the Rami is cross draw which will help a lot while driving.

Nick:

like you, I keep everything clean and oiled. I need to find a dealer in my  area who has a Rami in stock so I can put it in my hand and see how it feels. Thanks for tip about sights and trigger.

Just came back from the gun show in Palmetto (FL). Two RAMIs /decocker versions at a reasonable price ($520), so they are available. Having said that and carrying one almost daily for a couple of years, I switched to CZ P10S and never looked back.

I was shooting CZ P10S European version (non OR) last year in Poland competitively - 25 meters slow and fast fire with pretty good results, so I purchased one in the US - optic ready. I am glad I did. It is a great pistol and serves me quite well both as a range gun and as my EDC - out of the box with no modifications.

My ‘19 production RAMI has been flawless.  I’m better than 1100 rounds, including mostly reloads and it’s one of the best pistols I’ve owned, and I’ve owned a bunch.  Carried owb on my hip almost all the time.

I've had a Rami (bought used) for about 2 years now. I've never had any trouble with it, but it's starting to be more sensitive to lubrication. The return seems a bit sluggish unless it's very well oiled.

As I've put about 800 through it, and I don't know how many were through it before I got it, I'll change out the outer recoil spring and see how it goes. Other than that it's accurate, easy to shoot well, and trouble free.

I don't carry it, as my hands don't seem to find the mag release easily, and when I do, the mags catch on the heel of my right hand, making it necessary to pull them out during a reload.

If my hands fit it better, I wouldn't hesitate to carry it.

the symptoms sound like a recoil spring change is due. Since you bought used, probably good to also get a spare inner recoil spring assembly.

I've got a set I need to install.

I bought them from Midway before Christmas when ordering mags for my P 07. Thanks to the member here that posted the great deal on the mags!

Have two RAMI BD's with combined well over 8,000 rounds. First one is a '16' and initially had some feed issues, mostly failure to completely feed. I did three things to solve it.
1. Started using 'Slide-Glide' grease that slicks up the rails.
2. Polished the feed ramp and throat (my newer 2017 came polished already)
3. I learned about the need to switch out the outer recoil spring (about $5) every 500-1000 and both inner and outer every 2,000-3,000 when return to battery starts getting wimpy.

I keep accurate logs and I haven't had any issues of any kind whatsoever in over 6,000 since initial 'break-in'.

Added an RMR to my 2nd one and the little bugger shoots accurately like a much bigger pistol!
