Returning to the fold...
« on: February 05, 2020, 01:35:54 PM »
Sold my CZ83 a few years back and regretted it.  Just put a really nice CZ82 9x18 Mak in 10 day Commiefornia Jail (Private party transfer, so does not have to comply with the DOJ list).  Came with holster, lanyard, cleaning rod and two mags (10 round).  I still have my cross swords marked mags that I had before the ban.  Pics when I get it.

Loaded with Buffalo Bore or Core-Bon, it will replace my S&W Shield as my EDC piece.  After doing a few of the above rounds for function, 99.9% of the shooting will be probably Russian steel fodder.  Back up mags will have Hornady FTP or FTX ammo in them.  Don't want to beat it up unnecessarily!

Welcome back.   These CZ's are fun to shoot and a real piece of history.

Thanks!  I have dabbled with the CZ82/83s since the 90s when some first came in.  Have had two of each through the years.  I get lured away and sell them, but somehow always come back. In a way, I wish it was a .380, but the 9x18 is a decent cartridge, especially with the Hornady and CB and BB ammo.  It fits so nice, and carries like a dream in my Milt Sparks Summer Special IWB holster I had for my Shield.  The CZ82s and 83s I had before were just stupid accurate for a military duty pistol: Way more accurate than my Glock 19 or 9mm Shield!  A full mag of head shots in a B27 target at 15 yards is downright easy with the CZ.

Good to hear.  Last year, I came across a used that looked like new 82, with just around 990 rounds of ammo (mostly the above), for $300.  I figured for that price, I could keep the ammo until a shortage, buy some other and effectively have $100 or less into the pistol.

Well, I get it out of jail Saturday.  Ordered 100 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense 9x18 ammo to go with the 300 rounds of Russian steel case I have.  I opted against the Buffalo Bore, as I think it is a bit rough to use on a gun that is no longer in production.  It is steel frame, but I'll stick with the critical Defense.  It hs a good track record, and does well in the denim covered gel tests.

Well my CZ 82 inventory:  Since I have 5 original CZ 82 mags (crossed swords), I traded the two 10 rounders that came with it off. I'll have 100 rounds Hornady Critical Defense that I got from Buds for less than $16 a box (retired LEO price - saves $2 a box).  300 rounds of Russian white box 9x18, and one box of Winchester USA 9x18.

I have the tan Czech military holster that holds the pistol, two mags, and the cleaning rod.  It is odd looking, but great for discrete carry when I am out hiking or biking in the woods (I live in the Sierras).  I also have the Milt Sparks "Summer Special" IWB holster, great for EDC.  I will ultimately pick up another Gun Glove, butt forward IWB like I had for my CZ 83.  Absolutely the most comfortable IWB holster I have ever had.  I will probably replace the metal retention clip on it with a leather belt loop like the Milt Sparks.  I had to replace the leather seat of a client's brand new truck when the metal clip of the IWB sliced the soft kid leather.  $600 later... I swore off metal retaining clips.

Is it just me, or does the CZ82/83  carry easier than it should?  Loaded, it is the same weight as my Glock 19 loaded, but to me, it carries much more comfortably and more concealable than the Glock.  Because the top half is much slimmer than the bulky Glock, it is way more comfortable than the Glock in an IWB holster.  The grip is actually smaller than the 19, so that also helps.

Couple that with the fact I shoot the CZs better than the Glock or Shield, it is my favorite EDC weapon.  Just my opinion....

No, it's not just you. The 82 is (to me) a uniquely comfortable piece to carry and hold, just something about it plus the thinner slide/top as you mention. I own two, used to have another that had been professionally refinished. Yep, I regret having sold it.

Seems like a lot of firearms sales eventually bring about that sentiment.
It's not saving any water if you have to flush it over and over....

IIRC, In the early 2000s, PW Arms got whacked by BATFE for importing 6000 full auto FNFAL receivers from South America. I do not know when they started importing CZ82s.  Currently, I read somewhere they are an importer for Barnaul ammunition.

LOL!  Some is actually dust and grime.  I haven't cleaned it yet.  The high-resolution camera on the iPhone XR is crazy.  No cracks or chips in grips, and I LOVE it.  Even though it weighs the same as my Glock 19, it carries like the Shield 9mm I traded straight across for the pistol, two mags, issue holster, cleaning rod, lanyard, and a few boxes of Russian generic 9x18.  I would rather have 13 rounds of 9x18 in my CZ 82, than the 8 of the Shield.  It's short barrel really neuters the 9mm rounds.
