Need help choosing MD for Bren 2
« on: February 09, 2020, 04:32:25 AM »
So I am having difficulty finding a MD preferably not a brake. Would rather flash hider priority with compensation as secondary. It needs to add 2" past the barrel as I will be getting it pinned and welded. I am finding alot of 24x5/8 MD are not capable of .311 caliber.

And before anyone says, Yes I checked for 922r compliance.
https://www.reddit.com/r/NFA/comments/emoxvi/cz_bren_2_ms_922r_parts_list/

I plan on getting an HBI handguard once they come in
that brings me to minimally the 922r 10 parts.
potentially 11 parts, Since getting a barrel pin and welded is manufacturing it anew it technically would be made in the us. Not imported since its no longer the original configuration.

I've been experimenting with Griffin Armament gated QD MDs.
Specifically, I have a 30cal flashcomp that I've been experimenting with.
https://www.griffinarmament.com/30sd-suppressor-mounts/
Now, granted I have mine on a 5.56 barrel with a (shoulderless) thread adapter, but that's beside the point; I have confirmed that the length of the barrel with their 30cal MDs (gated QD ones, as linked) is still >16in.

A good estimate for added length of a MD is take the OAL of the device and subtract 0.625in. Hence, my flashcomp adds 2.15in for a total barrel length of about 16.3in once I get it pinned.

I will also be testing to see if their shorter 5.56 gated QD MDs will still work with a spacer and shoulder ring, but that won't apply to your case. Can post more info on that if someone else is interested though.

As for 922(r), that Reddit post is rather dubious in how it handles the assumption of the operating rod. Being that the charging handle connects to a piece which in turn *operates* the bolt, I'd still consider it until I see something saying otherwise. Again, for me its a non issue since I'm in 5.56, and can swap mags.

Since you're remaking the barrel, and now the muzzle device doesn't apply, I can still see a route to a count of 10 imported parts total if you also replace the trigger and disconnector with the HBI parts as well, unless you're running a CZ made stock.

Assuming worst (or best, if you have your hands on one, you lucky mf'r lol) and the op rod does count AND you do have the CZ stock holding you back at 11 parts: The mags are very similar to pmag ak mags though. Maybe swap followers or baseplates?

Side note, do get the HBI trigger and disconnector.
A. Becasue the trigger improvement is spectacular - all overtravel on both ends of the pull is gone as is most of the wiggle.
B. Because the disconnector is a cheap and easy upgrade if you're already pulling the trigger and one less part to worry about.

Yeah I already got the trig and disconnectors and when in stock getting the handguard as well.

I'm thinking of getting the picatinny rail stock adapter as the method to use perhaps a sig stock which should be us made correct?

The tube adapter counts already, since the actual stock you'd be using is an AR stock/tube. The rear plate isn't the stock proper, so it doesn't count.

In fact, the only "imported" stocks that exist are the CZ made ones, so any of the Dan Haga ones or just sticking with an AR tube will count as US made.

If you want to use an AR tube but you're annoyed with the wobble, I've found that using Dan Haga's rear sling swivel delete in combination with a couple pieces of tape between it and the adapter plate fixes that right up.

I know I just like the skeleton stock look

https://danhagadesigns.com/bren-2-1913-rail-endcap/
I mean Dan designed it so it should be good right?

Maybe this stock
https://www.knsprecisioninc.com/product/galil-ace-picatinny-stock-adapter-sig-sauer-telescoping-folding-stock-kit/

Or this one
https://attackcopter.com/2018/11/21/kns-precision-launch-ar-mcx-adapter-stock-combo/

Wonder how good or bad this one is

I'd be careful of the PDW style ones. Some of them don't look like they'd have enough clearance between the struts for the receiver.

That said, the picture DH posted today looks great and it's with a brace, not even a stock.

of the two folding stocks i picked out, both sig which is funny, which would you suggest to balance the cz bren 2 better? As i said or maybe I didnt I plan on throwing an hbi handguard on to remove some front weight to balance it back towards the shooter.

Without having them on to try myself, it's hard to say.
The thing I'd say to remember is that even with t HBI foreend, the weight adds incredibly fast once you tack on the tacticool gear.

But despite all that, once a loaded mag is dropped in, the balance of my gun is still roughly centered on the magwell, even if I pull my (rather heavy) ModLite and supressor off. So if you want your weight as close to the pistol grip as possible, the KNS brace is going to be your best bet. I didn't notice on the other sig brace, but the KNS brace also has the benefit of being swapped to fold to the left instead the right, which I think might work better for the Bren platform. Idk about interaction with the charging handle if loading your gun with the stock folded is in your interest, but I suppose you could always just swap it and have the left side slick? Then again, I'm pretty comfortable with charging handles on either side - I know most people have a preference

im actually a lefty who uses right hand charging so folding to the left on either works better anyway.
