defense ammo for Scorpion micro suggestions
« on: March 08, 2020, 08:55:36 PM »
Any recommendations on home defense ammo that runs well in these firearms?

I haven't had a chance to fire mine yet, still waiting for its arrival. But wanted to have stock on hand for its arrival

Google search of that only comes up with their ball ammo.
Only company I know that made a round with the name of HST was Federal. But I dont know everything that's for sure. So could have over looked it...

If you want to suppress, the 147gr HST work great out of a pistol.

Eventually I'd like to suppress it. Have to figure out if I want to hassle with the FEDs again for a tax stamp..

Hows the 147 HST run without being suppressed in these?

Both my Carbine Forend Braced Pistol and my Micro have eaten everything I've put in them. They both do seem to be slightly more accurate with the heavier bullets. But my plan is to sight in and carry the 124 gr HST load in both since these won't be suppressed.

I’m interested in the +P 65 grain “xtreme defender” by Lehigh Defense that Underwood sells.

From what tests I have seen it actually works as described, out performing a JHP while being barrier blind.  It’s also very fast and tends to blast through soft body armor.

With or without a suppressor?  You wanting light and fast expanding bullet or slow and long/heavy that will likely penetrate deeper?

As of right now like I said, itll be un-suppressed. Looking at more of a expansion round. In my new house I have to worry about collateral damage. Meaning going through walls and hitting neighbors house.

I'll have to look this up. I am assuming theres some YouTube videos out?

I run Federal HST in my concealed carry 1911 and they run great in the 45cal. This will be the first time I've looked for defensive ammo in a 9mm.

I've run everything from 115gr up to 147gr of various brands and weights through 5.3" barrel, suppressed and un-suppressed with zero issues related to the firearm.

That's great to hear that this weapon system will eat anything.  Nothing worse then having a weapon that's picky.

I'd echo what others have said - my Scorpion pistol has eaten everything I've put in it without issue.

In terms of ballistics, since the Micro has a 4" barrel, you're going to get expansion/penetration performance comparable to a handgun. Federal 147gr (or 150gr) HST would be a great choice for home defense - lots of expansion, and very consistent performance. HST is my top choice for defensive rounds these days.

What you use in your 9MM pistol.

Why have to keep different ammo for different guns of the same caliber that you might be carrying at the same time?

My 9MM AR carbine (and pistol) shoot the same 115 grain hollow points my CZ75 9MM Compacts and my P09 shoot so well.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I dont carry my 9mm so all I have is ball ammo. And no way will I use ball ammo as defense ammo. Unless its last min life or death..
