Narrow Thin Rubber Grips?
« on: March 13, 2020, 03:38:07 PM »
Just curious. Has anyone ever found a set of thin rubber grips for the compacts? I like the OEM rubber. But the palm swell is pretty large. Any chance of thin rubber grips out there? And not Talons ...  8)

I've never heard about rubber grips for Compacts other than "palm swell".

Here you can find something that you may consider.. but I'm not sure if this is what you'd like to use:

Yeah, ... no.  ;D Not exactly. Altho' I've had Hogues on other guns. Not this one. Darn it on the thin rubber. Haven't tried the G10s on anything yet. Kind of leary of the texture. Just trying to think of something to dress the P01 up a bit. Altho' it is looking (and feeling!!) pretty sharp as is. Just thinking some thinner grips might help it carry a bit better, that's all.

I liked the original rubber palm swells, but once I've started carrying my P-01 I found them too sticky.
I bought LOK Standard Full Checkered, and they were great for concealment. Now, after few months of using LOK grips, I see that the problem is with rubber, not thickness... and ordered LOK Palm Swells.
I like full grip in hand, looks the rubber is what I don't like. LOK is G10 and seems to be the best material so far for me.

Try the G10, I think you will like it.

Lok has some thin grips called Matrix that to me, seems kind of a tire type pattern.  I don't think they are the prettiest, but I like the texture.  If you want something a bit stickier, I wonder about that vinyl stuff that is either in dip form, or spray on texture.
I like some of the other textures, but I think with as much as I am outside in the weather extremes, they I think will wear my skin raw, I expect.

Looks terrible but for my Kahr carry guns I use a bicycle inner tube on the grip.  Super thin, grippy, cheap and ugly.  The Kahr's grip is checked like a cheese grader.

The BG is not looking at the grip.  When the guns on display just remove the rubber sleeve.

On another thread we got onto a discussion of how the Compacts carry and I mentioned my P-07 prints less and for me carries a bit easier than my P-01. Almost exactly same unloaded weight.
I really like the feel and natural shape grip of my P-01 (and SP-01 Tac) stock grips, but when I measured the width at the grip base 1.40" of P-01 vs 1.12" on my P-07 I got to thinking maybe it's the extra width that makes the P-01 print more. The P-07 is just flatter.
Anyone know how wide at the base are the 75 Compact G-10's?

Also my P-01 OWB Kydex holster has 10deg forward cant vs 15 deg forward on my P-07 and at 2:00 it just tucks in perfectly just above my hip.  Both pistols are optic equipped thus OWB for me. Yeah, I know everyone's built different and YMMV.

P-01 with LOK Standard G10 gips: These are even from top to bottom: 1.250"
I've spoken with LOK one day about their THIN grips and according to them P-01 with LOK G10 Thin grip measured on the bottom is going to be 1.120"

Thanks jurek for measurements and your experience with several LOK versions.
Checked out LOK website. Till now I didn't realize they made THIN grips in G-10.
I never cared for the feel of aluminum grips.

Next issue is deciding on texture. I like the look of the bogies, but wonder if they're too aggressive?

I have G-10 on my SIG P229 Legion which seems similar to checkered, and I like the fine stipple as on SIG P365 which is more like 180 grit sandpaper. However, the way I carry the P365 (pocket kydex) snagging is less of an issue.

But I have to say one of the things that attracted me to CZ's is the stock rubber palm swell feels so good and grip placement seems so natural.

Hmmm.......Decisions, decisions.

If I did go Loks, which is still up for debate, I'd probably go with the Standard Crosscut. Just like the looks.

@Vinny, I like the rubber palm swell OEM, too. Just seems to fill the hand properly. But, they are wide! Makes carrying a 1.5" (approx) wide pistol a bit of a challenge. Getting the pistol down to 1.2", really makes a difference. You wouldn't think 1/2" would be that much. But sure is, to me.

These are the Lok Crosscuts Standard.

;D decision... this always has been the tough part  8)

About texturing:
BOOGIES are great, but NOT for carry, they will stick to garment for sure. But other than this they are awesome.
FOR CARRY: First I went with fully checkered and found them fantastic. But after few months I missed full grip from factory grips. I also thought that texturing could be more aggressive than "fully checkered" without compromising concealed carry option. So I ordered PALM SWELLS Roughnecks. I should have them next week and let you know if that was a good choice.
I spoke with few friends and they recommended these grips. In case they are too rough I can use sand paper to smooth them for exact needs.

I don't really care if the grips are G10. My "1911 Tactical" came with G10 grips, and I changed them to regular plastic ones because they fit better. However LOK G10 is amazing. Feels great no matter if they aggressive or not.

Here you have my LOK Standard Fully Checkered:

Jurek,
You're probably right about the rubber as it tends to grab fabric and ride up, thus print more. G-10 on my SIG 229 doesn't seem to grab fabric but does create good grip traction without being overly aggressive on my hands.
I'm also thinking my holsters with 15 degree forward cant (vs 10 degree) seem to position the handle in better. But that's just me.
Once you have the new LOK Palm Swell in G-10 would like to hear your take on concealment vs grip feel.  Seems like a good compromise.  Thanks for the feedback  -Vinny

Agreed, the info shared on this CZ Forum in particular is priceless!
Have to say your choice of red liner on the checkered standard grips looks really handsome.
This thread sure has got me thinking.
