What guns will you never sell/ trade?
« on: April 04, 2020, 11:03:19 AM »
I’ll admit I have a decent collection of guns, less than I want, far more than my wife thinks I should have  :D

So, when faced with choice of getting something new (to me at least) I’m often faced with what must I sell or trade. That leads me to what of my collection will never leave my hands until I give them to my kids and grandkids.

So for me, this list includes the following:

1- all three of my Cajunized CZs (P01 Omega, PCR, and SP01T)
2- S&W M24-3 3”
3- HK P7M8
4- Merkel 1620
5- Beretta Silver Pigeon 20- was my father’s
6- S&W M686-4.

What do you have that you’ll never sell, trade?
Like a midget at a urinal, I'll have to keep on my toes

My older cz75b, my 1964 Winchester model 94 in 30-30, my old RIA government 1911, my s&w k-frame stainless 357, my 45 year old  high standard trophy in 22, my Remington 30.06, and will always have at least one 22 rifle. My new marlin 1894c in 357 maybe stay. I am looking at both sentimental and survival perspectives.

I'll never ever part with my PCR or any of my S&W revolvers. My Remington Wingmaster in 16 ga. was my first gun given to me by my dad and that will never leave either.

my 75BD is my oldest firearm. i did have an out of body experience and tried to sell it a while back. never again. and this might sound strange, but also my sig P365. i also bought the XL and wound up putting the 365 slide on the XL frame and sold off the rest to cover the extra cost. its the perfect carry pistol[for me anyway]now

None of my guns are off limits. I’d sell them all if the offer were fair. We don’t live forever and we can’t take it with us. In the words of John Popper, “We only get to rent, we never get to own.”

All in my collection are expendable with the following exceptions, which will stay in my family upon my passing. One is my VZ 58 CQB, and another three are pistols that CZ Custom has worked on for me:

CZ 100 modded with night-sights.
P-07 Duty DAO Conversion.
P-09 MHS with lightened and smoothed out factory DAO trigger.

I have two S&W's that was worked on by Denny Reichard. Since his passing there will be no more. He was a really great man and a super gunsmith!!! I'm going to keep them as a tribute to him. RIP Denny.

Been buying guns since 1976.

I've only gotten rid of three since then.  A Ruger Backhawk .357 with a 4&5/8" barrel traded for a Ruger Single Six with a 5.5" barrel.  Then I traded that Single Six on the Ruger Mk1 5.5" bull barrel I still have (around 1980).  I traded the Win. 190 my dad gave me when I turned 17 on a compound bow for deer hunting.  The Winchester was the worst shooting .22 I ever fired and pretty worthless for head shooting squirrels.

Everything else I've still got.

Wait, forgot about the Springfield 03A4 I foolishly traded to a buddy in 1978.  I had two and he fell in love with one of them at the range one day.  A left hander, it was kind of awkward for him but he was busting pieces of clay pigeons on the berm behind the 100 yd. target like - off hand, with GI surplus ammo.  He aggravated the heck out of me till I gave in.  I still have the other one.

I do give guns to my sons and my nephew though.  But that's not selling/trading.

I've got guns I haven't shot in over 35 years.  Old .22's, old deer rifles, old shotguns.  If I had a range in my backyard they'd get shot, some.  But, having to drive 35/40 miles (one way) and share the range with other people, I just don't make special trips to shoot the old timers in the safe.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Sheesh, ya mean I can't just keep 'em all?
Bought and sold a bunch of guns over the years. Bought more than I sold; and like Tanners; I've self-limited to selling one before I buy another so I don't end up one of those 'Hoarders' they show on TV.

Wife loves the smell of Hoppe's #9 and she collects musical instruments. Fiddles, button boxes, guitars, pianos, mandolins, ukes. So, no static at all from the Wife.  ;D

I'll probably die clutching my CZ's. SP-01 Tac, P-01, P-07. RAMI BD love 'em all big to small.

And like puddintame; I've really gotten to like the SIG P-365 platform for my pocket pistols. Like that I can swap slides on regular or XL frame, 10, 12 or 15 rounds, SAS slide, X-Ray 3 slide, Romeo Zero slide, and very soon hopefully a Holosun 407K slide. FrankenSig.  O0

But like hotshot357, there's one that's really kinda special to me. My uncle worked for S&W his entire career. The guy who knurled the hammers. So to honor him I wanted a special Smith & Wesson revolver. Stainless Performance Center 627-5 8-shot N frame 357 Magnum.  Don't think I could ever sell it.

I have learned over time that selling one gun to fund the purchase of another, or the purchase of anything else, mostly leads to one thing- regret. While anyone can say that everything they own is for sale, given the right price being offered, I have reached the point where none of my firearms are for sale. Sure, if some well-heeled fool wanted to offer me a million dollars for something I might reconsider....but I don't see that happening. True, we cant take it with us, but we can leave things behind for our children/grandchildren.

That being said, while none of my guns are for sale there are a couple that I wouldn't even take a million bucks for:

1898 Krag sporter (rifle I took my first deer with)
20 gauge Stevens double (my first firearm)
Remington 1100 12 gauge (belonged to my late father)
Store brand (Sears) 12 gauge pump shotgun (belonged to my late grandfather)
Benjamin .22 pump pellet gun (nothing factored into my youth more)
It's not saving any water if you have to flush it over and over....

Very good point. I would do the same. I know many shooters in their 70s who did not pass periodic obligatory medical tests and they had to get rid of everything within 2 months. That hurts. So, it's good to keep John Popper's words always in mind.

Wellll now I wouldn't say that. If someone where exceedingly dumb enough to offer crazy high amounts for what ever gun I might have then even sentimental value may go out the window. I'd sell my entire collection for a million bucks and pocket a tidy profit indeed. Figuring in terms of real dollar value I could replace most of the collection for less than $40,000.
Not likely to ever get such an offer but just saying if it did happen.

I don’t have any guns with sentimental value so they are all on the table if the price is right. What I DO value is that feeling of “trust”. I trust my 1993 CZ75b; thousands of rounds, countless draws, lots of mag changes. Not all of them flawless, not all the shots center mass but it builds a faith, a mental muscle memory that I can depend on. So I guess it’s the ONE gun I would never sell.

I’d also keep my Kadet, it’s a laser shooter. The CZ83 is my wife’s favorite so that stays. Really comfortable shooting my polymer guns so I guess I have to keep the P-series guns too. I have so much $$ in my 97 that I’ll never break even so I might as well keep that also. There is no way I’d can sell my PCR, it’s the best CCW piece. I have a 40B that  I never shoot but need to keep in case I decide to shoot all the cheap 40 S&W ammo I bought when people were dumping that caliber.

So yeah, I think that’s it: ONE handgun for me, for sure. Great topic, hope you don’t ask about long guns because that would be a hard choice.
