Judge blocks California ammunition background checks TODAY
« on: April 23, 2020, 10:04:52 PM »
Judge Roger Benitez just ruled to block California’s ammunition background check program today. That's the same judge that gave us Freedom Week last year. That should get rid of the $1 background check and bring back purchases out of state. Good news for once. I don't live in California anymore, but keep track of what's going on. They are the front line and what happens there spreads.

Hopefully Judge Benitez doesn't flip like he did on magazines.

The window has been closed again for now. As of April 24th 9:46 PM California residents, once again, are prohibited from ordering ammo online and having it delivered to their home. Instead, per Prop 63, it has to go to a FFL and they have to undergo a background check despite Judge Benitez's ruling.

The California AG was granted an emergency motion for stay pending further court order.

Looks like the appeals court reinstated the law. Glad you got your ammo though. I hear it's going to be a new beach accessory out there.

I'm still inside the normal 10-day window on my DROS for the first firearm I've purchased as a CA resident.  From what I understand the CA DOJ gets up to 30 days for background checks, which in the current situation could easily push me past the normal 10 days. And I can't purchase ammo, assuming it's available, until I'm on the list as having purchased a firearm in CA. :o

Your 10 days window will not extend. And automatically shortens you ammo purchases too. You can buy ammo when picking up your gun.

Good to know.  I was reading the notice on the subject of how COVID-19 is impacting the background check process on the CA Bureau of Firearms page and maybe misunderstood.

If dealer doesn't receive decline on the screening (gun buy) within 10 days - its automatic approval. That applied also for ammo purchase with short check($1).

I guess I missed my chance for an out of state bulk buy.

New news to me but I see CA AB 3071, which builds on AB 711 (no lead for hunting), proposes to prohibit the use of ammunition that is not certified lead free at indoor/outdoor ranges.
