New Dan Wesson DWX Compact
« on: April 24, 2020, 10:33:23 AM »
From several accounts, the DWX Compact was one of the stars of the recent Shot Show. https://danwessonfirearms.com/product/dwx-compact/ Since then it seems to have fallen off the radar. If/when it is finally released, does anyone here plan to check these out? I'm fascinated by the concept, but I'm not sure I'm all in. I love my DW Commander-sized 1911 and my CZ Custom PCR, but combing the CZ frame with the DW slide? I understand the extra round count compared to a standard 1911, but it's not like there's anything wrong with the CZ slide which is fairly thin already. As to ergonomics, the parent guns are both extremely comfortable and natural pointers, but different. The DWX-C hybrid essentially makes a CZ into an a strictly S/A pistol. What am I missing? What's the advantage?  Is it just a thought experiment, or is there a market for this?  Educate me, please!

I cannot wait the day it will be released.  8)
I've never shot DW1911 but as a left handed fan of double stack 1911 and CZ75 -> DWX-C is the perfect tool for me.
Hard to find any cons without having this firearm at hands. So far only pros for me (watching videos and reading articles).
Hopefully Dan Wesson / CZ  hybrid won't disappoint me.  ;)

The DWX series will have a true 1911 type trigger, not a hinge trigger like a CZ.
The allure for me is the 1911 trigger pull which can be tuned past the sensitivity of a CZ trigger in most cases.  Pics make me think the thumb safety on the DWX will feel like a 1911 thumb safety, which I prefer somewhat to the ergos of CZ safeties.

A good CZ can be made very good with help from CGW or CZC, but the DWX looks like it could be even more easily customized by someone familiar with 1911s already since many fire control parts are noted to be 1911 compatible.

It will be very interesting to see how the DWX series works out.  I'm interested in one (maybe after the initial hoopla dies down)!

And... the increased capacity over a SS 1911 is appreciated.

welcome.

not sure where you come from.

but when it comes to guns (and woman) you need to put your brain aside.

there will be those like you that have to break out the slide rule and analyze everything and there are those that will just accept things for what they are and maybe be grateful of being alive at this time.

i like to look/observe and ponder things myself.  "what ifs...."

my 1st time shooting a good friend took me out and he had a BHP.  Loved it but it felt like i was holding a 2x2.  Then there was the SAO feature.  OK, not knowing much about guns i accepted it as thats the way it is.   Then i got to shoot a DA/SA revolver.  I also shot a 1911 too.  But i pondered why cant they have a 1911 with DA/SA and a BHP with DA/SA?   I also loved the 9 more than 45 ACP.  Of course making a 1911 in anything other than 45 is blasphemy for some, but i was not raised with blinders on or any gun prejudices, so i could ponder what i want and buy what i want when i could afford it.

Then a read about the CZs.  Back then they were common like dinosaurs.   So i didnt think i would have a chance to see one, yet alone buy one.  But later on it happened.  That CZ 85 became my favorite toy.  There were others toys that were my favorite like my Colts and S&Ws and others, but just loved shooting it.  1911s were fun too.  Most if not all of my guns are natural pointers to me.   I can pickup any/most of my guns and hit what i aim at without much thought.

Glocks.  Glocks are different to me.   They feel like a gun, but for some reason, i cant shoot them well to save my life.  if i concentrate really hard i can maybe get that 1st shot to hit paper.   Not something i would carry for SD.  but the ones i have shot have a large enough cap mag, i have more than 1 try.   But i know from talking to LEOs and others that for some, you have to re train your hands/hold to shoot Glocks well.  they can outshoot the shooter since my friends that have and shoot them better than me is proof.

It appears you are wired to "analyze" things to accept them or to allow them in your home.  thats ok.  Its you and who you are.

but for some, if they go "bang" they are fun and many will just buy - because they can.

When it comes to guns and stuff, you would be surprised that some people dont settle for whats out there but if they think they can build a better/faster/cheaper mouse trap, they give it a go.  Its just a matter of time if it goes over or not, but i also see timing as appropriate too.

i have one of theses.  At the time i thought it was cool and still do.

All good points, drband.  My PCR trigger is tuned to 7.75/3.5.  Not sure I'd want it lighter for carry.

I totally get where you're coming from. I recently sold/consigned a S&W 686+ revolver, a Sig P238, a Ruger SP101 in .327, and previously unloaded an M&P9C. I like all kinds of guns, but don't like a safe full of things I don't shoot. I'm weird that way. Too me it's coming down to whether I want to add another DW1911 (maybe a CCO) or another CZ customized compact size to my carry and range rotation, or if the DWX-C would be a better option. Haven't decided yet, which is why I'm asking others what they think. Thanks for the response.

Yeah, that's pretty light... but a 1911 straight pull trigger feels different than and CZ pivoting trigger.

Nice CZ triggers are very good, however!

I'm extremely interested in the DWX Compact because a lefty-friendly, double-stack 9mm 1911 doesn't seem exist. Plus, the DWX Compact supposedly takes full-size CZ 75 mags (if that isn't the case, I'll be very disappointed), which is a big bonus. I'm hoping the DWX sells very well and Dan Wesson releases a more traditionally styled model with a steel frame and no picatinny rail, maybe a ring hammer too. I'd snap that up in a heartbeat - and meanwhile, if reviews are good, I may get a regular DWX Compact while waiting for them to make my dream pistol.  ;D

They are already saying that they will be offering a version of the compact without a rail, if the hammer is more CZ than 1911, CGW will probably have a ring hammer available, a steel frame version would be very cool though.  :)

Correct, but as far as I know they've only said the Compact will have an aluminum frame, no word about a steel version yet. I wonder when they'll actually start shipping guns out, I hope they haven't been delayed too terribly much.

I have a full-size DWX in .40 on order. Before the WuFlu struck, the estimate was June for shipment.

I don't know if DW is still manufacturing or if the NYSSR shut them down over the Pandemic.

I want too physically handle one before I'd consider ordering one. I have 1911's and DA/SA CZ's and prefer the DA first shot of my CZ's so justifying the cost may be a stretch for me. The DWX looks like it will be close in size to my PCR so no advantage there in concealability but once I handle one I may be impressed enough to snag one. I have a local dealer who is going to call me when he finally gets one and I'll check it out .

One other advantage may be the bull barrel.
