P01 Omega thoughts
« on: April 25, 2020, 11:32:54 AM »
As outlined here before I got a BAD Omega and it stacked horribly to the point it was worthless to me.  I am happy to say that with a ton of work and shooting hundreds of rounds, it is pretty good, and one of my favorite pistols.

I applied principle from this thread:https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=100885.msg779338#msg779338

Namely taking steel, I mean taking it down, on the rear of the TB where is slopes downward.  This is the ONLY way I have found useful in taking care of the HUGE stacking issue in many Omega guns.

It won't ever be made a sticky for unknown reasons, but wanted to share as this P01 OMEGA was a mess.  The Omega in the P01 is a retrofit, as the system was NOT designed for this gun - it was designed for the P07/09 and when you reassemble you can see this in spades - but it does seem to work.

I think when the parts tolerance stack in this gun (P01) it tends to react in a way worse than the P series guns.  I thought that because the gun is alloy framed, that it would smooth out better - not.  I do really like the P01 model for its versatility, relatively light weight, accuracy, SHOOTABILITY, reliability, and steel/alloy build very much.  I don't think I could hang with the traditional P01 for two reasons:

- The decocker is in an awkward position for a high hold as compared to the Omega
- Complete disassembly is HARD with the decocker and sear cage - at least for me, and I normally need to do this to change the trigger spring, a part known to go south in the 75.  I also ALWAYS strip and polish my CZs because they just mostly such OTB but can become gems with work.

Lastly, for those who have the stacking problem, the only way it normally goes away or at least smooths out well, is through attacking the rearward slope in the TB.  I have 'saved' more than one Omegas this way.

The DA trigger was trash.  Simple.

Its what happens when you buy online sometimes.  I will say I've gotten a P07 and P09 that was also a trash DA.

And as I said, I REALLY like it now.  The Achilles heal of the CZ Omega is trigger quality.

I'll add:  If a gun is out 20 years is it time to update?  JUST adding horizontal serrations to make it checkered would be a HUGE improvement, and is overdue in the age of CNC milling.

True... however I don't care anymore. Even I lowered DA pull I still didn't like it.
I'm using safety levers on all my handguns now.  ;)

I started using Omega system CZs  because of ambidextrous functionality. Like them... however it is still not "1911 kind of pleasure"  :P

I STAND CORRECTED - sorry - yes - the DA can come so botched on these that I cannot figure out why "everyone" loves them.  True , True.

Years ago when I wanted one, CZ USA actually told me to get the 'regular' one instead.  BUT, I like the convertible aspect and the ability to strip and assemble easier.

I got you... Sear cage is blowing my head out. Omega is so easy to work on it  :)

Got the P07 and P09s and liked them well enough to buy the UG P01 Omega.

Carried it some.  Added a light.  Never got a suppressor.  Like it well enough to buy a black P01 Omega a couple years later.  Really wanted to see what the decocker thing was all about but I don't run the decockers anyway.  Cocked and locked, like the 1911 and P07/P09 pistols.

But I was still interested in trying to figure out why the decockers would walk out of the frame, just didn't have the issue with either one of mine.  The decockers locked in just like they were supposed to and stayed no matter how many time I flicked the levers or racked the slide.

The UG is my is my recliner/basket pistol and the black one has moved to the exercise room pistol.  If those smaller Holosun red dots seem to be reliable the black P01 will probably end up with one of those and be carried some more.

And, those vertical grooves on the front/back of the frame make all the difference in the world to me.  The CZ75 Compact feels good in my hand.  The P01s are just sexy.  Every time I grab one of them my hand and brain tell me how good it feels/fits.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I fitted mine with the safety and was irritated by the fact that CZ couldn’t spend an extra $ .15 to make the little safety detent out of steel. I replaced the plastic one twice cuz I couldn’t find a metal one. Then finally I made one from a stainless flat washer and, voila!, it finally had a positive and tactile feel when I operated the safety.

I sent mine back to the factory for the same reasons, heavy, crunchy trigger pull and they fixed it at no charge for repairs or shipping.
I love CZ.

The P01 feels so much better than the compact largely because of the beavertail - WHY CZ does not put that small beavertail in ALL their modern guns is a case of the ridiculous.

While the vertical serrations feel very nice, they are worthless.  Serrations alone do little to stabilize the gun in a wet hand and do LESS that horizontal serrations.  If you add horizontal, you get checkering - PLEASE CZ - put this on a service gun, not just your gun gamer weapons.

Good for you - I ALMOST did this, and should have but tinkered instead and now it is pretty good.

Please tell me what they said on the return slip - what did they do?  Thanks.

I had a couple of the steel framed P01s (gave them to my sons) and they had the upswept beavertail.  That wasn't it.

I wonder if it's a combination of the weight plus the grooves plus the beavertail?

And maybe the different trigger?

Now, talk about ugly CZ triggers, look in the dictionary and the picture will be those two steel framed P01s (actually stamped CZ75 Compact on the slides.)
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I made it throughout the course of a 12hr shift (shhh, don't tell my boss) and it was a pain to make. The washer was a tad thick so I thinned it down on a file for about an hour. Talk about raw fingertips. The rest of the time was spent shaping it with an off-brand Dremel till it was as perfect as I could get it. I ended up selling the gun too. ::) Sorry man but I hope I never have to make another one of those. ;D If you can find a metal one from an older CZ, Tanfoglio, or similar gun you could probably fit it with a little bit of work. Numrich Gun Parts may have one. You could also try Patriot Defense in Kemah, Texas. They're great and keep a good stock of parts.

Thx Gunnerdad80,
Looks Numrich can have it. Doesn't look as plastic on their website. I'll call them on Monday. I appreciate the tip.  :)
