Need help choosing competition rig for TSO
« on: May 12, 2020, 12:41:13 AM »
Im looking for a competition style holster and belt for my new TSO.  I would prefer a company that doesnt have a 30-day build time (like Red Hill Tactical), but perhaps all the competition holsters are like that??  What Im mostly confused about are all the options.  For instance, the RHT website has 13 different attachment options (QLS pattern, WarLok loops, etc, etc)...and I have no idea what the Hell any of them are.  Also, its asks about "retention options" and "Nitro Fins"...again, no clue.  My holster experience is limited to IWB EDC.

Is there anywhere I can go to see what the Hell they are talking about??  Not sure if Im ever going to actually shoot in a competition, but I'd like to have a range holster anyway, and I'm a buy-once-cry-once kinda guy.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

The TSO is a limited division rig straight from CZ.  Is your's a 9 or 40?  You would do best utilizing a race holster if you intend on shooting the TSO in competition.  There is no sense in purchasing a standard kydex holster for the TSO if you intend on competing long term.  The frame is different enough that other CZ's won't be able to use them and the gas pedal requires some special reliefs.

I use a Double Alpha, Alpha X with Racer mag pouches and their competition belt.  Very stable, configurable, and tough.  This is what you will be competing against but I wouldn't recommend the investment unless you are committed to the game.  It's not cheap.

If you haven't competed yet, then I would opt to take out a production gun (not the TSO) and get a OWB (kydex) holster and mag pouches for less than a third the price and see if competition is for you.  While out there competing you will see other rigs and get more ideas on what works and what to avoid.

If your deadset on a competition rig for the TSO but don't want to spend the $$$ on a race holster, RHT holsters are very nice and they have a ready to ship option.  They offer a special cut for the TSO thumb rest.  I think the Nitro fin option is essentially the same as a thumb rest so you don't need it with the TSO.  The DAA premium belt is nice.  DAA racer mag pouches are nice.

I'm sure there are plenty other options out there for consideration but these are products I have direct experience with.

Cheers,
Toby

As far as attachment options there are a lot, you will have to research to find out what you like best,( I use the standard hanger from the Stoeger pro shop) retention options are I believe whether you want the thumb screws for on the go retention adjustment or actual screws to set it and forget it, (I like the adjustment on the fly ability myself) Nitro fin is just a bigger thumbrest. If you want a kydex holster that will accommodate the factory thumb rest RHT are about the only guys in town unless you go with a smaller custom maker that can use your gun. Other wise you are limited to the race holster option the above poster mentioned (they are super fast for competition!) good luck with your search the TSO is a great sidearm, you will really enjoy it!

Check these guys out.  I have bought from them in the past and the fit and finish of their holsters is phenomenal.

Thanks for this, it helped me out! The Double Alphas are super nice but way out of the budget for a weekend warrior haha.
