m1 Garand value
« on: May 31, 2020, 04:23:21 PM »
Is there anyway to know what my M1 garand is worth? Or do you have to check all the parts/serials etc and cross reference?

Any help would be appreciated.

First place to look is at sold rifles on Gun Broker. That will give you a ball park figure. Condition, maker, original or rebuild will all factor in. www.m1garandforum.com would be a great place to get answers on the ins and outs of prices.

Starting point for an M1 Garand is about $1000.

WWII all matching add $$$ (all matching except for a post war replacement barrel adds $$)
Korea/post-Korea all matching add $$
CMP paperwork generally adds $

most of the ones I've followed on GunBroker over the last few years ended in the $1100-1500 range.

What are you looking to value?

Variables, variables, variables,LOL ! So so many roads to go down. How Original, how many matching parts versus correct parts. Key factors would also bbl wear/muzzle wear,,etc! Gunbroker is OK as long as the seller is "Honest" and states facts, not feelings. Documentation is King and having the rifle gone over by someone that really knows what there looking at! I would also recommend the CMP Forum, there are some good guys over there. There are tons of books and information on the web so get after it, LOL With all that said yes I agree, many M1s sell for $1000++ on GB but you can buy a nice Service Grade @ CMP for under $800 shipped and there are some nice rifles coming out of the CMP. Do your research and let us know how ya make out!

welcome,

as mentioned previously, many variables....

 > some M1s were re-welds so if its one of those, it may not be so desired.

 > if the receiver S/n is  early enough that it could have been on DD beach, then someone may pay more for it.

 > If its USGI complete then it could be worth more. But most of them were and are mixmasters due to arsenal rebuild at one time or another.

 > some people will collect/favor a 1 mfg or another.

 > depending on the condition of the gun, i personally would not pay more than what i could get from the CMP.
