do the thin grips help much with trigger reach?
« on: June 01, 2020, 11:03:08 AM »
Hello.  I haven't handled a CZ97B since the grips went to the thin aluminum.  I have medium hands, that lean towards small.  I had found the DA trigger reach with the wooden grips a bit too much.  Did the aluminum grips improve the DA trigger reach?

They do help with the trigger reach, but it's still a big grip.  I would really like to see an extended mag release on the CZ97, of all the CZs I think it would benefit the most from the mag release being easier to reach and manipulate.  It wouldn't need to be like the competition pistols, just something extended.

Cajun Gun Works can make you one.  I bet he could also make one with the Shadow 2 style paddle as well.  I installed mine and haven't looked back.  The 97B/BD has a long grip and that makes reaching the release more difficult.

tdogg, thank you for the info.  Just reviewed your previous post.  I’d like to install The S2 paddle on my 97.  CGW says without frame mods to a figure 8 a modified release button to round won’t work.

I took the mag release out of my SP01 & made it fit. From what I remember I just ground it down to fit & reblued it. Its about 1/16" longer. Made it just long enough.

i just picked mine up today. i too have smaller hands than some guys.

i can assure you that if you can handle a 75B (which i also have), then you can handle that 97 B with ease.

i cannot wait to get to the range next week, and "break-in" my new 97B...

Buddyd157, you answered a question I have had. I really like my cz75B and am interested in a 97. Been wondering whether my medium hands would fit the grip.
Thanks for your input.

i think you will love a 97B, i know i love mine.  with  my smaller hands, i can very easily reach the trigger.

i'm just now waiting for CZ to get a shipment of mags!!!

I found out that what is typically considered "hand size" doesnt always determine trigger reach- finger length does. I have large hands (have to have extra large gloves) but shorter fingers. Thats why the 97 I owned didnt work for me, I even have trouble with 75s. I hated that, I really wanted the pistol to work for me.

to be frank, i'd have never given finger reach to be a problem with larger hands.  :(

i would have assumed it would not be a major problem, over say me, a small handed person to reach that trigger.

all i know i can say is, that with the thinner aluminum grips, and for MY hand size, the 97B is as easy to grip as my 75 B is.

heck, i can even reach the trigger on the GLock 21 (.45 ACP) which as soon as they start building them again, i'll wanna go and get one. i found that gun to be easy to handle as my Glock 17.

so much for assumptions on my part, about larger hands. >:(

I have to buy extra large work gloves or they are hard as heck to get on and off, butI always have empty space at the end of my fingers  :o
I have trouble with the 75s too, in double action.

Some measurements:

trigger reach measured from trigger straight to back of grip
CGW RRK installed so out of box length will be longer

97B = 3.10”
75B = 2.90”
75 P-01 = 2.94
DE 1911 = 2.76

My 97 came with the thick trigger so the reach was too long for my liking.  I installed LOK thin bogies which are 1.165 across the screws.  For a large pistol the grip is right for me and my hands are average size.

Got my CZ97B Wednesday. Fits my medium-sized hands well. The double-action trigger pull is very nice. Overall, it is a sweet pistol with good ergonomics and nice lines. She goes to the range tomorrow for a couple of hundred rounds.
