Question Shadow2 paddle mag release
« on: June 02, 2020, 02:24:15 PM »
I’d like to install the S2 paddle mag release on my 97b.  CGW tells me the frame must be machined to accept the figure 8 release not ground down round.  My questions are will the paddle just rotate if mounted to a round release button?  Is the S2 release extended without the paddle relative to the oem 97 release?  Don’t want to send the 97 in for machining.

the guys at Cajun know what they are talking about.
Id take their advice.
if you don't want to send it.....you shouldn't but getting an extended mag release will be hard to do.

Thanks for the prompt reply.  Yes CGW knows what’s best.  The Shadow extended release can be ground round for the 97.  Addition of the paddle muddies it up.

If you’re going to do that route of grinding the mag release down, you need to drill and tap a hole for the pad screw and another for the roll pin which prevents the pad from rotating.

I have done the grind, drill and tapped for my TSO and Czechmate so I can use the shadow 2 pad on my TSO and Czechmate’s mag release.

Here’s Some pic of the TSO:

Thank you George!  The picts answer my questions.  Without seeing one I assumed a pin or cutout for
anti-rotation.  Time for a couple beers and the thinking cap to fabricate a paddle to function with a round release.

Don’t forget to soften the mag release with a propane torch or clamp it using a vise grip and put it on your gas stove while you’re wife is cooking  :D

I just got a back-in-stock notice for the Shadow 2 mag release from CGW at 1pm. Clicked link at 1:04pm and it is sold out. Grr.

I’m just going to order the extended and start grinding n drilling.  The extended is longer than the S-2, maybe more length to play with.  Order a paddle or two from LOK.  Oh, and thanks for the heads up.
